“”SHEMA YISRAEL””
COMMENTARY SNIPPET: “In the course of a rather free-flowing and largely public discussion with Tim Stevens about issues related to Internet use by jihadis and processes of recruitment and radicalization, I let loose with a pretty bleak, albeit poetic, assessment of the Internet and information technology generally.
This led Tim to wonder if my view of things was perhaps the result of the many death threats I have received.
The short answer is “no.”
My own experience has been quite positive. While death threats are an annoyance, they also have the effect of validating the worth of the work I do.”

“Spies take war on terror into cyberspace
New approach tackles ‘severe threat’ of attacks by funding monitoring network”
By Kim Sengupta
Friday, 3 October 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Britain’s security agencies are fighting a covert war in cyberspace against extremist Islamist internet sites as part of a new anti-terrorist strategy, senior Whitehall officials have revealed.
As well running its own sites, the Government gives material support to groups that monitor and combat jihadist material on the web in an attempt to prevent indoctrination of young Muslims. The scheme is part of measures being introduced at a time when the threat level is described as being “at the severe end of severe”, with, officials say, extremist groups determinedly attempting new attacks.”

Kevlar containers could thwart suitcase bombs
Snippets: The government is currently considering new luggage containers for airplanes made of reinforced Kevlar, which could protect passenger jets from small suitcase bombs that might go undetected by luggage scanners.
Many airlines are resisting the idea, primarily because the government hasn't offered any financial assistance to institute the program. The containers are heavy (265 pounds) and expensive ($18,000). The airlines are already struggling to stay afloat and can't afford to outfit much of their fleet of aircraft with these containers. Additionally, the weight of the containers reduces the amount of cargo and passengers a plane can carry, further reducing revenue.
