ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

And as I’ve said, it’s too easy to avoid getting pregnant.
It’s not good, but I know a lot of very decent families where this has happened. They are making the best of the situation by facing up to the issue, not aborting the baby and preparing to marry. Let’s not forget the problems of Al Gore’s kids. This type of issue is found on both sides of the aisle and shows the general direction of society.
Pro-lifers should be condemning teen sex but celebrating life.
Nevertheless, you put an image in my head of pissant dancing under the Tacoma Narrows Bridge singing "pissant pissant is my name!"
Outrage, you know what...no. Why? Because that “outrage” doesn't belong to me, it is not mine to have or express. That feeling, if it exists belonged to those who are involved. And then they forgave such that they could take up the very Christian values we talk about to girls who get pregnant. That there is love, hope, support and to not have an abortion.
If one stays stuck on outrage in these situations it doesn't help the girl and most likely pushes them towards the abortion decision.
Obama: Look, I got two daughters 9 years old and 6 years old, he said. I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
Somehow, given the choices of both Sarah and her daughter I suspect they don't view the life of their children as punishment.
I can't say I believe a 17 year old being in this position is ideal, but she made a choice and she's taking responsibility as is apparently the father. The support of the family is there and I wish them well.
Considering most Americans have been affected by this either themselves, with family or friends I somehow doubt widespread condemnation will follow among the majority of the American people. The positive (politically) is that Gov. Palin is the one who disclosed this herself and provided the convention is still on Wednesday night will have an oppontunity to direct the national conversation wherever she pleases. Without a doubt that will probably be the most watched speech of the convention. My guess is that the public will emphathize with her even more after that speech, whether she references this or not.
I truly am sorry that you feel that way.
I think it’s wrong.
McCain has a long history of making bad decisions. McCain-Finegold for example was his attempt to reduce money in politics but ended up doing the opposite. He thought McCain-Kennedy would reduce illegal immigration but just becomes bait for more illegals. He is just a bad decision maker.
Risky for McCain, but it does make McCain look good in my eyes. I was never a big fan of McCain, but over the last month he has been gaining a lot with me.
Interesting how this news has drawn out two types of Palin critics, the “holier than everyone else” crowd who would have never let their daughter out their sight, and the supporters of abortion. Regarding the election, this is a nonevent. The first type above need to take a break posting and take a deep breath. The second type can get lost.
As the other poster asks, how do YOU know she didn't?
Of course, we all know that the pill and condoms are always 100% effective, no woman has ever gotten pregnant when using birth control. [/sarc]
You may be right given that the Left is often hypocritical about such things, but it won't track well with Hillary's "15 million cracks" message.

I believe the good chaplain would disagree, as do I:
If their focus is on their own shame, or the shame of the family, or the shame of the party, then they are pro-life talkers.
Shame, embarrassment, inconvenience, etc. IS the argument of the baby killers.
Our argument is LIFE.
Poor kid. His life is about to change in a very unpleasant fashion and the Left is going to destroy him.
I pray for him.
Xenalyte is a troll or mentally deranged.
Disgusting of you to say. Who the hell are YOU to lay that claim?
You mean, they can figure it out without the gubmint? /s ;)
Yeah, I’m a troll. I’ve been around here for eight years, just a-trollin’ along my merry way, and no one has yet to stop me.
Proper procedure is to ping the mods if you really think I’m a troll.
Go ahead.
I dare you.
“Pregnancy is not a crime,”
Neither is putting your hand in a chipper.
