While Bush is giving the speecc they should have Cheney in the background with one of the half-naked photos Putin did last year, drawing a red target circle on it.

I totally agree. I’m getting pounded on other posts by people thinking we should confront Russia militarily over this. That kind of thinking is beyond retarded in my book. There are many more prudent ways of dealing with this issue that are in the USA’s NATIONAL SECURITY INTERESTS.

I will tell you what he can do. As freeper kristinn suggested earlier, he can announce that he will be joining the President's of Poland, the Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, who are already on their way to Tiblisi to stand with the Georgian government there and call for and immediate cease fire.

That would be leading from the front.

It could well, if Bush joined them, stop Putin's juggernaut in its track because to harm them would lead to a much wider, all-out war.

It would be gutsy, couragous, and it would be the type of thing that comes out of the blue, like the Rose revolution itself, or the way the people in Moscow stopped the tanks back in the late 1980s, on which history turns.

The times for words in Georgia are done...it is time for action. Either the couragous action of these Presidents who know well the evil...or action in support of the Georgian military.

Otherwise Georgia is lost and we will be living with the foreign policy consequences of that...waiting for Russias next move (and there would be others) for years to come.

It’s amazing how the Soviets/Russians can conduct REAL warfare.. If the US did the same the MSM would be decrying how aweful the US is... But the MSM is concerned about Edwards... Nuts!!

Exactly. See my posts 21, 30, and 48 regarding exactly that.

“why Iran must never get nukes”

Yep, bomb bomb bomb Iran before the dust settles, then find and hire Charlie Wilson for `Afghanistan, The Sequel’.
I think the Russians saw us project military power successfully in two countries, and on the other side of the world, and they got nostalgic . . . too bad for them, they will be the bad old days.

The Presidents of Poland, the Ukraine, Lative, Estonia, and Lithuanai are flying to Tiblisi as we speak to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Georgians and demand a cease fire...daring the Russians to harm them.

Gutsy, brave, couragous, and the very thing that history can turn on. Bush, IMHO, should join them and it would probably work.

“...he can announce that he will be joining the President’s of Poland, the Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, who are already on their way to Tiblisi to stand with the Georgian government there and call for and immediate cease fire....”

Our president should give his life over this cause?

You know something? If Bush did that then Putin could send a bomb directly to where Bush is staying. He’s be a hero of a good many Americans, (the left) and a good many Muslims in the world. I think that idea is stupid.

Courageous men — one and all and a roll of the dice, depending on how far Bad Vlad is willing to go. The U.S. has stared them down twice before — once under Kennedy, once under Reagan, is three times the charm? How tough is this former KGB Golden Child? I’d say plenty.

So far, tonight is an “address” by the President. Other than a statement of the obvious (i.e. some really, nasty sh!+ going down in Georgia), he can “address” all he wants, it is what it is.

This cause is the defense of the free world. We have another 1938 moment here. IMHO, this move by Putin is calculated and it is definitely not isolated.

The entire west and free world is being tested as we speak in the small country of Georgia.

If we allow Russia to trample this free country, which we were all mesmerized by a few years ago in their Rose revolution for freedom, and who answered our call for help in Iraq, then we will be paying for it for many, many years to come.

I believe Bush should lead from the front on this. These other President's are...and they know the score, the risks, and the costs for not doing so better than the trest of us because they lived under such tyranny oin the past.

I do not believe Putin would dare risk harming them.

Putin has plans for the Georgian president (via McCaltchy):

"Of course, Saddam Hussein ought to have been hanged for destroying several Shiite villages," Putin said from Moscow. "And the incumbent Georgian leaders who razed 10 Ossetian villages at once, who ran over elderly people and children with tanks, who burned civilians alive in their sheds — these leaders must be taken under protection."

BS. Georgia is not worth Russia's national existence, and Putin knows it. He knows neither Georgia nor the US will attack Russia. This is a calculated gamble to ratchet up oil prices and give Russia de facto control over all the Caspian Sea oil.

For the US, however, guaranteeing oil flow and reasonable prices is a matter of national existence.

This means we can bring more pressure to bear than the Russians can stand, and it would be easy to do. But I strongly suspect we will do nothing.

It is defintely a risk...but I do not believe Putin would harm them and start World War III over Georgia. It is the type of action that coruagous leaders make sometimes that turn history.

The five Presidents of those former satellite states ahve already announced they will go.
