WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate John McCain admitted on Saturday it can be difficult at times to be proud of the United States.
Ill admit to you that its tough in some respects, McCain said when asked by a questioner at a town hall meeting how to be proud of the country.
We have not always done things right and we mismanaged the war in Iraq very badly for nearly four years.
McCains wife, Cindy, pounced on Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, for saying in February that she was proud of her country for the first time in my adult life.
The Arizona senator said it was important for the United States to be more humble and inclusive.

Okay! Please provide the context of his remarks.
I'll look for them in the morning. Thanks!
Too much self respect to vote for those 2 together.
That’s not the way geopolitics works: “always oppose your enemy and his allies”.
It’s why the US supported Saddam in the 80s (”so what if he treated his people like garbage, at least he was taking on Iran.”)
So when Serbia declared itself on Russia’s side, it instantly lost any US support.
Exactly!
And the rats can now superimpose Reverend Wright shouting, "God D*** America!" with video of McCain essentially agreeing with him.
Un -
frigging -
believable.
NO I am saying I am proud of the United States of America..with all its flaws.. I love my country, and I have lived in other countries.. I love the USA
Has he forgotten about the fact that the USA is the number one donor to nations in disaster?
With statements like his, he makes it difficult to smash camp Obama.
What a complete moron.
Interpreting John S. McCain as somehow CONSERVATIVE has to be, after all these years of his public speeches, money flow, voting record, appointments and campaign positions, one of the most NAIVE things one could ever do IMHO.
Since I do not see McCain becoming a CONSERVATIVE in the next five months, nor is AmericanInTokyo going to cross over to become a RINO or a LIBERAL, I am afraid that chasm is not going to be bridged between now and November.
I watched his most recent tv town hall that FNC broadcast live. Of course I’ve seen snippets of him at his other town halls.
It’s like someone dropped a quarter in his slot and he does “stream of consciousness” rhetoric for an hour. He’s totally enamored with all things from the McCain brain as they flow forth from his lips.
Too many things in the McCain brain aren’t well thought through. They only work as sound bites for the mushy middle who are being led like sheep by the MSM.
Like putting ANWR off limits to drilling because “it’s pristine, and I believe we should keep it pristine”, or “it would be like drilling in the Grand Canyon” (no, it wouldn’t be ANYTHING like it).
Garbage like that.
This is pandering to that segment of America that has mush for brains and is swayed by catch words, slogans and soundbites of the day.
Also, we have to remember that McCain is a WORSE communicator than George W Bush.
Who knows for sure what he meant but we sure know how awful it sounds (but he thinks it’s inspired because it came from the McCain brain)...
Dear Lord, help us...
300 million people, and these two are the best we can come up with???
The only reason to not be proud is that The Left models itself after the failed Soviet Union, and McCain has been a part of that.
Are we all proud of America for EVERYTHING that she has done or been involved in? The simple answer is no and slavery is one excellent example
This quote, to me, is the over all opinion he carries of America I think we can be proud of America because of what weve achieved and accomplished in this world,
The meaning assigned to words here is subjective and looking at the source (Reuters) I'm not surprised at the slant.
He’s going to get trounced by the Abomination. McCain is a friggen idiot. Cindy McCain would have a better chance. At least she could show some cleavage.
Please, please pass that advice on to the candidate.
I’m glad these folks weren’t around in 1999. They would have hated this place because we were saying the same thing as McCain.
HUGE Bump!!!
I hate to admit it, but I have to agree with McCain on this. Sometimes it is difficult, for example, when we get five senators to team up and attempt to strong arm banking regulators in an attempt to halt oversight into a failing bank on behalf of a campaign donor. They then walk away leaving taxpayers holding the 3.5 billion dollar bag, and then say “all politicians do it, the system needs to change”. Thankfully, most politicians who get caught pulling crap like that simply shut up and go away.
This man has no business representing the GOP, he has even less business representing conservatives (with whom he becomes more and more hostile each day).
McNut has conservatives like you by the short hairs and he knows it.
And one only needs to look at his record to see that he ain't gonna somehow miraculously swing to the right if he's elected. Anybody that believes that is delusional.
McAmnesty won't be getting this conservatives vote.
