One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.

Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.

Unless Clinton is able to at least win the primary popular vote — which also would take nothing less than an electoral miracle — and use that achievement to pressure superdelegates, she has only one scenario for victory. An African-American opponent and his backers would be told that, even though he won the contest with voters, the prize is going to someone else.

People who think that scenario is even remotely likely are living on another planet.

The same party that, if I recall correctly, gave the nomination to Humphrey who hadn't won a single primary. You're right, they will do what they want.

Even so I don't think they'll make that mistake again so the Gore option is waaaayyyy off the table.

It's still a long way off and a lot can still happen but the superdelegates are there to prevent another Carter foobar and if the Wright situation continues to have traction I wonder if they won't fall in line for Clinton knowing that Obamarama has fallen off the cliff.

Hillary will take down the ticket more than Obama. She has higher negatives. Prediction: Hillary will drop out of the race before the convention, probably after NC. Richardson’s endorsement of Obama is the openning salvo from the DNC. Probably Edward’s will follow. The Dems want to avoid a tumultuous convention. Hillary can’t win. Anyone else would have dropped out after losing Texas, which she did.

Obama is not doing well under pressure. His numbers are sinking rather fast. The superdelegates will have to choose between Hillary and a loser of monumental proportions.

OBAMA: -- (stammering) the odds of me getting elected have always been, uh, lower than, uh -- than some of the other conventional candidates, and if I bring something to this conversation, it's going to be because I do what I did yesterday, which is hopefully open up a new conversation about a new direction of the country.

He was forced into making this speech. Now he's the candidate of race. This is a sympathy play; this is a victim play. Obama is now asking us to look at him as a victim.
