Story Behind the Story (Hillary cannot win)
Politico ^ | March 21, 2008 | Jim Vandehei

One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.

Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.

Unless Clinton is able to at least win the primary popular vote — which also would take nothing less than an electoral miracle — and use that achievement to pressure superdelegates, she has only one scenario for victory. An African-American opponent and his backers would be told that, even though he won the contest with voters, the prize is going to someone else.

People who think that scenario is even remotely likely are living on another planet.

Hillary will be the nominee. Book it. Probably POTUS, too.

True, too. But in the which-is-worse vein, better to run Obama against McCain and lose or run Hillary and face riots?

you don’t expect 527’s to do the same thing on the dim side to mccain?

08 will be a blood bath on both sides...

Pretty good analysis.

Although Pelosi said that superdelegates should “respect for what has been said by the people”, that’s exactly what the superdelegates were intended to do. After McGovern embarrassed the party, the superdelegates were created to protect the party from the will of the people.

Obama is not doing well under pressure. His numbers are sinking rather fast. The superdelegates will have to choose between Hillary and a loser of monumental proportions.

Of course they can. They can throw black voters under the bus for Hillary. Or they can see Middle America turn its back on a black candidate with ties to the extreme fringe. Whichever way they turn, they risk offending someone. Its not a boat that raises the Democrats up for the general election.

Shrillary’s apparatchiks will find a way to make Obambi take the VP slot and pretend to like it.

OR, Hillary is toast.

Either way, the Demagogues are toast.

I’m really starting to like this election campaign.

[no, I don’t like our R. choice, but I always enjoy seeing the Demagogues tear each other apart]

Its not going to happen. The Democrats are not going to commit political suicide for the Clintons. If Hillary did snatch the nomination through under-handed means, the black vote would disappear.

Disappear where? Nader? McCain??? Don't be silly. Democrats will line up and vote for whoever is their nominee. Some once, many will vote twice or more times. Whatever it takes.

And if Hillary steals the nomination the Black vote stay firmly planted home and Democrats lose.

You can only drink so much KoolAid, no matter how delicious it is.

It’s not like there will be a massive demographic switch to the GOP, but black turnout will be severly depressed, the inner city GOTV payola campaigns will shut down and the reliable 93% black Democratic vote is out the window forever.

Long term damage to the relationship will be the idea that blacks will be able to state they are voting Republican in an election without being treated like race traitors.

Hillary rocks, in her own awful way.

Maybe. But we've never seen a campaign where neither Democratic candidate has a majority of the delegates locked up before convention time. Hillary was supposed to be coronated by Super Tuesday and instead she's struggled just to stay competitive. I wouldn't miss the Clintons and it looks now like Obama is damaged goods in the general election.

Of course all the 527s will turn out in full smack mode. But Obama has more negatives going into that fight. It’s hard to picture Obama winning Ohio, or Penn., or Missouri, or many other must-winners in November, even against an elderly but still-on-his-feet RINO. Unless he teams with Gore, then I’d be worried more than I am now.

Speaking of 527's, Bill O.'s new article in the NY Post this morning made me feel sick:

“…So now we learn that Soros and his merry band have put together a number of 527's that will pony up an astounding $350 million for "issue" ads in the upcoming presidential campaign. That means much of that money will be used to pound John McCain into pudding.”

Yes, with the knowledge that the black vote will dry up if Obama isn’t the nominee.

Will The Democratic Party put a Black Nationalist on their Presidential Ticket?

Will The Democrat Party put Hillary on their Presidential Ticket and lose its almost unanimous precious Black Vote forever?

Great Entertainment!
