Agreed. I wish we had a candidate we could be enthusiastic about but we don’t.

I could care less about being part of the group. Lord knows I buck popular opinion in FR all the time but I take my lumps and move on.

Yes, and it is suffering from a horrible form of delusion as well. Nothing but delusion would allow for a candidate like McCain to run against Obama. And it will be Obama.

I feel he led us on, then jumped ship.

Most losing presidential candidates endorse the eventual party nominee. I can't think of any who haven't.

Thompson didn't "jump ship."

Whittaker Chambers:

"But if the Republican Party cannot get some grip of the actual world we live in and from it generalize and actively promote a program that means something to the masses of people-why somebody else will. Then there will be nothing to argue. The voters will simply vote Republicans into singularity.

The Republican Party will become like one of those dark little shops which apparently never sell anything. If, for any reason, you go in, you find at the back an old man, fingering for his own pleasure some oddments of cloth. Nobody wants to buy them, which is fine because the old man is not really interested in selling. He just likes to hold and to feel. . . ."

“This should drive all the Fredheads batty.”

Not this one. Fred waited until after it was over - and it is, Huckabee won’t win squat - before he endorsed McCain. He is doing what almost every Party leader will do, and rally behind McCain. He didn’t lift a finger to help McCain win the nomination.

That said, I won’t support McCain. I believe the best overall outcome for conservatives is to fight for Congress & hope the dems take the WH. Conservatism needs to be explained to the masses, and a liberal republican President - like GWB had been on nearly every issue except the GWOT - undercuts the message. We’ve gone 20 years since a conservative had the bully pulpit. We cannot afford to have conservative thought undermined any more by a big government, compassionate conservative.

We need to rally to WIN CONGRESS...because the Presidency is already lost.

I agree. We need to be trying to find someone for 2012. But so many of the good ones have allowed the media and dems to define them like George Allen for instance. I wish he would have stood up and fought that silly charge.

No, SCOTUS will be shot to hell. We will get moderates or mod-libs with McCain...No, SCOTUS is gone with any of the 3.

I have been against McPain since 2003...but what you just mistakenly pointed may have changed my mind.

Roberts, Alito, Scalia and Thomas are not going to be retiring in the next 4-8 years.

So if you're correct, and I think you are, then McCain would certainly replace the ultra-left wing Ginsburg or nutcase globalist Kennedy with a "moderate or mod-lib".

If all McCain does is replace a Stevens/souter/Kennedy "inform the SCOTUS decisions based on international law" attitude, with another Kennedy-lefty who doesn't believe that international law should enter into SCOTUS decisions, then it will radically alter the balance of the court in the right's favor.

I remain a Fredhead as I continue to believe he’d be the best POTUS. There are always certain times when I disagree with my candidate or elected officials over some matter and this is one of those times.

Has it ever occurred to anyone shooting their pop guns ...

The answer of course, is no!

Are the people on here whining the type of Americans who we like to think of as winning WWII or the Cold War? Pop gun is right. The way people throw around "treason" etc when things don't go their way. Ugh! Way to lay it out Leni.

I’m saying I don’t think there will ever be another Ronald Reagan and it seems like people here are looking for Reagan back. I wish we could get him back too but I am saying look at history. If there were people like him out there, then he or she would have surfaced more than once in a hundred years.

“thanks to the media and all the other candidates who refused to say anything negative about McCain.
Hmmmm.”

That’s right, now we are stuck with McCain. I never could understand why Mitt was regularly described as being a sleaze. Are they kidding? The guy has been a devoted father and husband. He certainly isn’t some sort of closet homosexual or womanizer, the way I suspect some of the Democrats are. So I never understood that. All I could say was, “How can they honestly think that let alone say it?” Anyway, according to Mike Savage, the reason why Mitt was defeated was because the left wing media felt very threatend by a Christian Mormon with very strong family values. I agree with him completely. I just can’t believe how many conservatives are suckers. That’s why we are stuck with McCain. The worst thing that could have possibly happened to the Republican Party at this point in time!

Many knew months ago this would eventually happen, of course we were tared and feathered and damned neared accused of heresy for it.

send a message to the RNC (who I believe monitors FR). We want a conservative!”

It's not the RNC shunning conservatives- it's the voters.

No. No! At the end of the day, I have to vote my conscience. I have to live with myself. I absolutely refuse to hold me nose and vote. I am sick and tired of choosing between the lesser of two stinkin’ evils.

If Hillary doesn’t get the nomination, Obama will be a shoe in because like McCain, he can attract lots of independents. And lets face it, as far as personality goes, Obama, the socialist that he is, is very appealing. People all across the political spectrum like him weather they agree with him or not, you can’t say that about McCain.
