Fred Thompson, the one-time Republican presidential candidate, endorsed Sen. John McCain Friday, calling on the party to "close ranks" behind the presumed nominee

I haven't decided what I am going to do, but I despise McCain as a candidate, not because of how he is running this campaign, but how he ran a miserable campaign in 2000. His actions were a disgrace to all Americans. He was as arrogant as he is now, even more-so. I was for him, until I heard him speak on Michael Reagan's talk show. I was in my car, and almost wrecked, because of the nastiness. It wasn't merely McCain's nasty words that shocked me, but the vindictive way he spewed them. He was in a rage over absolutely nothing. Then, include McCain Feingold, his immigration stand, his saying Judge Alito is too liberal, the Keating Five, and other issues he's screwed up.Do we want someone like him to be a leader?
When the point man in an Infantry squad says that everyone behind him is a REMF, I will respectfully laugh at him, but when a spoiled brat who didn't get his way accuses me of being a moderate, that I won't take.
Either grow up, or go back in your corner, put your thumb back in your mouth, and for God's sake, keep your whimpering to an inaudible level!
“Exactly what Ive been trying to point out in FR lately. Most of our Repub candidates havent been all that great.”....
So you would like to keep that trend going?
Shhhh!!! Don't tell anybody.
But they are all part of a secret organization called the Republican Party.
I believe Fred understands the stakes and decided that party unity was crucial to the future of the country.
Cute. Why don’t you grow up. Look at Hillary and Obama’s agenda. Use common sense. Majority in both houses and WH and you don’t think they can fix it so we never get another chance? They are obsessed with absolute power and will do anything to keep it. Better wake up, pal.
Predictable, but still disgusting. Screw Fred.
Thank God our founding fathers and veterans and old patriots didn’t look at it that way.
You can’t close ranks with an Army of Benedict Arnolds.
They quit OUR Army then tell us we have to close ranks and pay attention to endorsements like super lib and bundle of sticks Arnold, etc
When they re-enlist in the conservative army in 2010 we close ranks and take back the house and senate.
Were you aware that Reagan endorsed liberal Gerald Ford?
“We need a meaningful discussion of people, personalities and positions on FR beginning now. If nothing else, it would send a message to the RNC (who I believe monitors FR). We want a conservative!”
I’m at work now (sneaking my FR) but that is a good idea. Are you home? Can you start a thread? If not, I will be more than happy to do it once I’m home and can spend quality time on it.
It’s very important we start that immediately.
Naw. They are doing what they have to do as party loyalists and I don;t condemn them for it.
I KNOW McManiac and his supporters would not do likewise were the situation reversed.
American needs four yeas of another Jimmy CAHTA type purgative to wake them up and it is strong enough to survive Hillary or Obama. BUt the Republican Party can not and will not survive four or eight years of a President to the LEFT of the current incumbent.
“Fred is obviously not the man I thought he was. Im sorry that I ever even thought of voting for him. Im glad he left the race.”
I don’t feel that way at all. Fred’s endorsement of McCain does not mean that he agrees with McCain on all issues. It does mean he will keep working to promote the conservative principles we all believe in. I think Fred will have an important roll in the Republican administration should McCain win the nomination and become President. I for one will be voting for the Republican ticket in November!
I know people are not going to like to hear this, but here I go: I will vote for McCain even though I had to be one of the biggest supporters of Fred Thompson since BEFORE he entered the race. I don’t believe he entered illegitimately, I believe he really would have gone the whole way if he had gotten the backing he was hoping for. Independants and Dems voted for McCain in the open primaries, which closed Thompson out. He is backing McCain for the same reason we should, keeping a Republican in the White House. Yes, yes, I know most don’t see McCain as a Republican, but I promise, four years of Osama Obama or Billary and you will beg for McCain. If he asks Fred to be his runningmate (hopeful here) Fred can balance McCain out and I believe they would make a good team. We need a Republican in the White House in the next four years. Do you not realize the next President will pick two more judges for the Supreme Court? That’s huge, and not to mention staying the course in Iraq and keeping our military strong. Dems will rape us in these areas. NO, WE MUST GET A REPUBLICAN TO THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, that means McCain. and Hopefully Thompson.
I don’t have a link but it was in our local paper that the military had broke for McCain. And my stepson and nephew who are Iraq vets are supporting him. They say he supports them.
The fear of God means Thompson should not endorse McCain?
Didn’t think you would be, either.
Fair enough. I voted for Romney in the primary.
It makes perfect sense. Fred, Duncan, and now even Paul, are all loyal party members and know their duty.
I am not a loyal party member.
I am a conservative Christian, and we are in this world but not of it.
