Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

“perhaps Huckabee is being misrepresented on FR. I’ll have to do some digging...”

No need. The one thing about the Huckster is that in the beginning of this process, he was honest about who he is. Replay the first debate and you’ll hear all you need to hear.

Big government.
Illegal alien handounts
pro-welfare state
healthcare for everyone.
etc etc

Now I’m not so sure. Seems to me this was a good way to undermine his reputation for no useful purpose.

Who would you have him endorse? The rest are gun-grabbing baby killers or a traitorous bastard. Socialists all, to boot.

Well... what next? Thompson endorsing Goofball Paul? LOL

Now that you mention it, this campaign season has been so effing weird, I don't doubt it as a possibility now.

First Tancredo endorses Romney, then Hunter endorses Huckabee, the logical next step would be Thompson to back Paul because he supports the smallest federal government possible.

It could happen.

I wonder what would happen here if NRTL decided to endorse Huckabee, now that Fred is gone.

We may not know what will happen in the short run, but there is no question about November. Unless the GOP nominates someone other than any current contender, Hillary will be president. Every current GOP candidate is too mediocre and/or to untrustworthy to garner any substantial support among Republicans, much less the general population.

There will be no great rallying around the GOP nominee.

I was wondering how the heck so many people got schnookered by Huckabee.

Now Hunter?

WHAT?!

Who else was he going to endorse? I'm sure Duncan knows what a backstabber John McCain is and how he has tried to undermine most conservative legislation over the years. He would never endorse a pro-abortion candidate like Giuliani. And, he knows -- like any true conservative does -- what lying, flip-flopping liberal Willard Romney was.

Why didn't he just keep his mouth shut?

This is what happens when politicians are placed on such high pedestals......and so much emotion is invested in them that when they topple it's almost unbearable to take.

I was and am a FRedhead of the first magnitude, but I took his withdrawal in stride as an adult.....I started immediately to think ahead of the best thing to do.....and I'm not sitting around wallowing in self-pity, bitterness and despair that we didn't get what we ardently wanted.

Well, there goes Duncan as Secretary of Defense or Homeland Security. He would have be better off if he had kept his BMS.

And, what the hell, Fred may endorse Peter Pan Paul later this afternoon.

I need a drink!

Huckabee is still Huckabee ---- the Huckster.

NOTHING can change that -- not an endorsement from a previously respected man.....

The very same can be said of Romney, who seems to be the defacto supported RINO

‘If you are part of a society that votes, then do so. There may be no candidates and no measures you want to vote for . . but there are certain to be ones you want to vote against. In case of doubt, vote against. By this rule you will rarely go wrong.”

“If this is too blind for your taste, consult some well-meaning fool (there is always one around) and ask his advice. Then vote the other way. This enables you to be a good citizen (if such is your wish) without spending the enormous amount of time on it that truly intelligent exercise of franchise requires.”
