Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

You have to be freaking kidding. I guess Duncan being a honest man is buying this crap about Huckabee now being strong against illegals immigration, that he’s no longer in the pocket of corporations like Tyson, that he no longer believes in raising taxes like he did in AR...

He should have kept quiet like Fred Thompson about endorsing anyone else.

I guess it really easier to take an honest man than a crook.

Hopefully Huckabee runs out of money. Romeny looks like the only viable Non-Rino left. I also think he could wipe the floor with the bitch better than anyone left in the race.

Maybe Hunter is into “popped squirrel”.

I will get over it, he never went anywhere, and this may be his political swan song.

“There are NO good choices in this election!!! “

Except for Reagan in 1980 there hasnt been a good choice for the GOP for along time. This is nothing new - the GOP forces these eletists RINOs on us. I am depressed too but it almost always has been a choice of a lesser of two evils - we need to pick our poison and deal with it. I wont vote for McCain no matter what.

He is a Southern Baptist. That has got to be the reason. Sorry Duncan, you were my man, but now I question your judgment.

Ann Coulter stated she is a Catholic going with *the Mormon* on a recent (IIRC) BOR show.

Just caught the last snippet - but she is clearly trending to Mitt.

Well isn’t this a kick in the nuts. Hunter endorses Huck. I’m sure Huck’s a good man, but he’s an Arkansas liberal.

As for me, I couldn’t resist the dark side of the force. My libertarian Mr. Hyde has wn out over my sophisticated Dr. Jekyll.

But what choice does a man have? Hunter- OUT. Thompson- OUT.

I’m voting for Ron Paul. If I can’t vote for Reagan, I’ll vote for Goldwater.

Good grief! I guess anybody can get fooled. This really shows Huckabee to be an Elmer Gantry type phoney.

Same as me...none of the above.

That is certainly reasonable, but some people like to choose sides.

It doesn’t make sense at all.

Yes it does....he wants face time on the cable shows.

Hunter is and will be the new media darling.

And he couldn’t possibly deliver his home state. The Hunter for VP talk has been pie-in-the-sky nonsense from the beginning.

An update from The Corner.

More on Hunter/Huck   [Byron York]

The endorsement of Huckabee just doesn't seem to fit, given Hunter's national-security orientation, concern about China, all that.  I thought it seemed so odd that, when I got the email a few minutes ago, I called Hunter's spokesman to make sure it was right.  It's not huge news – Hunter got all of 1,048 votes in the South Carolina – but a number of conservatives who paid close attention to the race liked Hunter, and they usually weren't the sort to support Huckabee.

Of the remaining candidates, Huckabee is the most acceptable if for no other reason than he can be counted on to appoint conservative judges and justices. The same cannot be said for McCain, Romney, and certainly no Guiliani.

I agree with much of what you say. I said at the beginning of this campaign that the one person I would never vote for is McCain. I’m about to eat those words. I will vote for Rudy if he stays in, even though I am strongly pro-life. My problem with Romney is that I just don’t trust him in my gut. He’s the least conservative, I think, and he’s been packaged to sell to a conservative audience when I don’t think he is. Rudy is honest about it, which is why I would support him. Not crazy about McCain, but for the reasons you cite, will probably support him if Rudy drops out.

Ditto.

My first choice was Thompson. Time to move on.

Voting is a privilege and I’m hoping against hope I have made the right (no pun intended) choice.

I have to ask myself, “Would not voting make any difference?”, probably not.
