McCain Wins South Carolina GOP Primary, AP Projects
AP | Jan. 19, 2008 | Breaking News

Sen. John McCain won Saturday's South Carolina Republican presidential primary, AP projects.

Fox News and NBC News exit polls ranked the economy as the top concern among South Carolina primary voters, followed by illegal immigration, the war in Iraq, and terrorism.

Columnist and Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol commenting on Saturday's results on the Fox News Channel said that the Republican field is now winnowing down to just three viable candidates: McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani.

Public opinion polls...I would not completely discount them. But, I also would not take them too seriously...

Sure, the poll now shows that McCain would beat Hillary. But, the election is in November.

But, after a barrage of attacks by Hillary, how many would still support McCain? Many people could change their minds.

Many years ago, a liberal GOP congressman Tom Campbell ran against CA Senator Barbara Boxer...

He lost...He and Boxer agreed on many issues like abortion and environment...

From the story:
Columnist and Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol commenting on Saturday's results on the Fox News Channel said that the Republican field is now winnowing down to just three viable candidates: McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani.

Mr. Kristol's kristol ball is clouded.

If "viable" means going all the way to the convention, there are at least four, maybe five if you include Thompson.

If his crystal ball says one of the three mentioned will win a majority of delegates after SuperDuper Tuesday, he needs to send it back to the Chinese factory that made it and ask for a refund.

No candidate in the race tonight, 20 Jan 2008, has enough momentum to propel him into undisputed first place after February 5 primaries are held unless one or more of the aforementioned three drops out.

There's slim chance of that, but stranger things have happened.

MCCAIN split the conservative vote but took a lot of moderates and independents. I think he only got 20% of the conservative
vote. He can’t win without the conservatives backing him and I for one will not vote for him. Ever he was against Bush’s tax cut he weak on immigration. He is squishy period. He was involved in the Keating five mess. they actually had him on tape talking to Mr. Keating about that Saving’s and lone mess. How can you vote for someone who supports illegals with amnesty for them.He is not a true conservative.

McCain does what McCain wants and his attitude is s@rew the people he is supposed to be working for.

Which is why they keep electing him over and over again.

Did the dems vote in this Republican primary in SC?
The answer is decisive to really understand what’s happening and how to handle the results of that primary in SC

If my choices were narrowed down to McPain or one of the Marxists, I’d vote for McVain and try to be supportive of any good he might do while fighting his lunatic liberal episodes.

Well, I was disappointed that he didn’t finish first but second’s not bad :)

Don't sweat it. I don't care to see McCain as president but he is better than Hillary or Obama.

McCain would probably appoint slightly better judges for Amerexico courts than would Clinton or Obama.

Florida is more key this year.

Then we're DOOMED.

Florida democrats have been stripped of delegates. They are registering to vote in the primaries as Republicans. Even my idiot liberal bro-in-law said he's voting for McCain.

This "plan" was determined years ago...the Hildebeast will be queen.

Rush kept saying “wait till we get a state with real republicans” in his theories on media predictions. I guess SC got over their immigration anger.

---------Will that matter when we have an even larger terrorist attack because the Democrats are soft on foreign policy and military matters? I don't want a Democrat anywhere NEAR the Oval Office, and I won't allow one to be elected by not voting, just because my guy didn't make it as the nominee.--------

This is larger than that. This is about policies. Most of McCain's policies are liberal. Global warming, amnesty, judges..........

The media *WILL* paint McCain as a conservative as he passes liberal legislation that ruin the country.

Conservatism won't have another shot at higher office. Reaganism will officially be dead.

That's why if McCain gets the nod, he won't get my vote. And any sane conservative should do the same. In all technicality, you'll still be voting democrat.

Really, really sad. I’ll hold my nose and vote for him if it’s a choice between him and Hillary/Obama, but worry that he’s too damaged to fight the WoT effectively while fending off the “advice” of Kennedy.

Which leads me to a question: if the ECONOMY is really the number one issue on voters’ minds, why haven’t Romney and Huckabee done better?
