Newt Gingrich’s on-again, off-again adulation of Hillary Rodham Clinton appears to be back on.
The leader of the 1994 Republican revolution — who as House speaker in the mid 1990s clashed fiercely with then-first lady Clinton and her husband, Bill Clinton — attributed her surprise victory in New Hampshire to the Democratic presidential candidate’s courage, integrity and openness.
After Clinton’s third-place finish in the Jan. 3 Iowa Democratic caucuses, “it would have been very easy for her to have broken, accepted defeat,” Gingrich said in a weekly podcast e-mailed to supporters.
“Instead, starting on Saturday night, she fought back with greater and greater intensity, and she opened herself up," Gingrich went on. “She talked as a person, without all the protection, without all the discipline, and she became more and more appealing.”
Gingrich said that shift demonstrated “the courage to learn” and enabled the New York senator to grow “in the space of three or four days to a much more attractive, much more aggressive and much more appealing candidate.”
As a result, he posited, New Hampshire voters who made up their minds at the last minute “were going to Sen. Clinton, were affected by her campaign, by her integrity, by her openness.”
Gingrich’s podcast, one of many products cranked out by his political groups, also had similarly high praise for Arizona Sen. John McCain, who won New Hampshire’s Republican presidential primary.

Newt, STFU.
Even back in the day, there were articles about how Newt was more of a pragmatist than a movement conservative.
I think he was never what most people thought he was. Which is why I think some in the conservative leadership in the House back in the late 1990's tried to stage a coup.
It would be nice if republicans/conservatives would finally wise up to Newt and his group.
Like some other people I could mention, Newt goes from brilliance to dunce in less than thirty paces.
Giving Hillary a compliment even if deserved isn’t fruitful. You just provide fodder for some wing-nut leftist to say that even Newt respects her.
Newt, zip it. STFU if you can’t reason better than this.
I believe you. I didn’t pay as much attention back then as I do now. The main thing I remember from Newt is the “Contract For America”. How long ago that seems.
Duncan Hunter vs. Newt: Who is the Conservative??

>Where are all the FReepers who think Newt is a genius?<
He is a good speaker-but I never trusted him.
Wow! I used to think Newt was smart. Or is he joking?
What is happening to our conservatives? They’re going weak as jelly. The two remaining true conservatives in the race are not being supported by the conservative wing of the party, and it looks like they’re all but out. What’s wrong with commentators or leaders coming out in favor of a candidate in the primary? If Pyllis Schlafly, Rush, Hannity, CWA, et al would have voice their opinion, maybe we’d have a conservative in the race. It is interesting to note, however, that National RTL endorsed Thompson as well as a few other states, but it’s rarely mentioned in the media. The Detroit Free Press today (Sat) touted the fact that since Michian RTL refused to endorse anyone, maybe the “Shrill, extreme right wing” of the Republican party has been effectively beaten back. Again I ask, where are the conservative leaders of the party?
I know he’s at least smart enough to know that, it makes me wonder why he said it in public. Thanks for nothing, Newt. (Fortunately I don’t think it’ll mean that much to voters on either side).
This is what happens to your brain when you’ve been in Washington too long.
The polls exist to create bandwagon effects for the candidate of their favor. The numbers may look good, only because the questions are framed to present desirable outcomes.
Only in the last week or two will these polls converge somewhat to the real election results because by then they will have achieved their desired effects (or not) and it is time to show some reality so that you can claim your polling was rather accurate and even “detected the shifts that were occuring” at the last moments, thus preserving their credibility for the next polling (and income producing) election.
“Last minute changes to Hillary”? “Changeovers to McCain in the Final Days”? Get real! How many times did you, or anyone you know, not know who your vote was going to weeks in advance of a major election? It just don’t (sic) happen.
LOL. Happy new Year, BTW. I got my check ready.
But that doesn't mean you have to slobber on them...
Has Newt gone off the deep end? Or is he just trying to rile up the base...
“I have no idea what his game is, but it has stunk for quite some time.”
His is the strangest game I have EVER seen.....it makes no sense whatsoever. Does Newt think Hillary would ever give him the time of day? Hell, she eats her own, and would throw anyone under the bus!
When viewed in the light of Hillary's 900 FBI Files it all makes sense.
