Just what did the Clintons get on Newt, anyway? "Clinton" and "integrity" in the same sentence is like "vampire" and "garlic".

Even back in the day, there were articles about how Newt was more of a pragmatist than a movement conservative.

I think he was never what most people thought he was. Which is why I think some in the conservative leadership in the House back in the late 1990's tried to stage a coup.

I believe you. I didn’t pay as much attention back then as I do now. The main thing I remember from Newt is the “Contract For America”. How long ago that seems.

Worth repeating.

Pragmatism is needed in certain circumstances. This is not one of those circumstances.
