'Meanest Mom on Planet' Sells Teen Son's Car After Finding Booze Under Seat
AP via FOXNews.com ^ | January 9, 2008

DES MOINES, Iowa — Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the "meanest mom on the planet."

After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone — by placing an ad in the local newspaper.

The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet."

Hambleton has heard from people besides interested buyers since recently placing the ad in The Des Moines Register.

The 48-year-old from Fort Dodge says she has fielded more than 70 telephone calls from emergency room technicians, nurses, school counselors and even a Georgia man who wanted to congratulate her.

"The ad cost a fortune, but you know what? I'm telling people what happened here," Hambleton says. "I'm not just gonna put the car for resale when there's nothing wrong with it, except the driver made a dumb decision.

I was laughing and thinking.....sounds like something my mom would have done if booze was found in my car.

Same thing happened to me this morning on a different topic. The seach didn’t show that it had been posted. Could be that all of the posts were posted in close proximity time-wise.

Most people, who have read it elsewhere, won’t post to your thread anyway.
I hadn’t seen this topic posted, so I’m glad that I caught yours.

This mom is a winner in my book. The kid will realize one day what a great mom he has, if he doesn’t know it already.

Frankly, my mother would have run me over with my vehicle. At the very least, I would have required emergency care, and a breathing tube.

Good for her. I wonder if the kid is going to get it one day.

My mom was a prison guard and she told me if I got arrested for drinking or drugs she would see me when her shift came up.

She told me shew would not pay for bail or a lawyer, I was on my own.

Good thing I NEVER got caught. Ha ha ha

A week or two before Christmas, I heard on the radio, about a father who found his kid smoking pot, or found pot on him, etc. and decided he wasn’t going to give him the Sony Play Station 3 for Christmas that he had already bought. It ended up selling on eBay for $9k to some guy in Australia, according to the radio report. Sometimes, it pays to be a good parent.

Your mother seems to be reasonable woman by threatening you with just abandonment. My mother wasn’t a prison guard. She would have put me six feet under without hesitation, and she wasn’t even an undertaker either.

I am here today as well because I never got caught. :^)

I often heard the classic line “I brought you into this world, I’ll take you out too.”

Oh yes! That was my moms motto.

In all due respect to my dear mother, she was a devoted mom. I love her dearly. She simply did not allow us to behave unruly or disrespectful. My father was a push over.

So in the span of 2 minutes and 9 seconds, three people provided the same link to the earlier story. (There is a slight difference between posting similar comments on the same thread and posting duplicates of an article on the forum, but I do acknowledge the point that I infer you are making about the appearance of piling on.)

Well, you have to know by now, the law of averages state the posting nazis will all post within ten minutes of the duplicate post. So, why not wait 20 minutes? Better yet, why not just let the admin know? Is there a prize I don’t know about?

Well, typically I like to let the poster know rather than posting to the admin, but that's just my style. Also, I will also give suggestions that might help with more effective searches in the future. I figure most duplicate article posts are unintentional, and try to offer helpful hints -- especially when the poster is a long-time FReeper who probably knew better but missed the prior post.

Excellent policy. I’ll keep that in mind when my daughter is older.

I just think it’s amusing that’s all, don’t you? Makes me think there should be a Yahoo group or something Citizens Concerned About Duplicate Posts on Free Republic.

I kind of prefer if the admin knows because then they lock the thread and post a link to the original and I don’t have to waste my time reading comments about how it’s dupe. So I always wondered why people who are very quick to post the “dupe” posts don’t just let the admin know.

Now I have an idea. Thank you very much.

Be well.
