You said — “Then the RR can have the GOP to themselves, all the sinners will be gone, just like they have always wanted.”

There will never be peace, as you can see, between the Religious Right and the other side of the party. That’s because the one does not agree with the other — which is also the reason why the items that the Religious Right wants are not getting taken care of — which then (also) starts to lead to more *strident* calls for things to be taken care of, that the Religious Right wants.

I’ll tell you, that there had better be some taking care of some of these things, or there’s going to be a “train wreck” for the GOP...

And if you are a Baptist, you believe that people can only be a Christian because God first chose them.

So if you aren’t a Christian, it’s because God didn’t want you to be a Christian. You aren’t part of the “elect”.

For me, the *first criteria* is that a candidate is Christian. Thompson has failed that criteria with me. Then after seeing that a candidate is Christian (which would have to be someone other than Thompson), then one can get into the political matters...

You said it yourself; that's what matter first and foremost. So that means you overlook whatever policies, positions, world knowledge, past corruption, etc. the candidate has in favor of that one attribute. Sorry, I can't buy into that one-issue thinking. I'll stick with the comment I made in my post.

I am so completely, utterly SICK TO DEATH of religion, "christian issues" and abortion being the be-all, end-all issues that have completely splintered this party.

Hey, I hate abortion too! Lets end it once and for all so that it is never an issue again in another election. OK?

Actually Hunter was one of the first to enter the race and many many months later Fred came on board.
Manybe it is Fred who is taking away Hunter’s votes.

You said — “From your pretentious, self-rightous, bigotry you have demonstrated that you certainly cannot be a follower of Jesus and therefore must not be a Christian.”

This is an example of why the GOP is going to end up with a “train wreck” for their political party, when one segment of the party tries to minimize what the Evangelicals are working for (the reason for their votes). It’s apparent that this is what is coming on for the GOP... a real train wreck... coming soon enough...

You have a slim grasp on the concept of baptism and rebirth

I don’t think many here appreciate your take on these things, really. I know I don’t and I consider myself a Proud Christian! I could care less whether you consider me one or not. We are not selecting a leader of our church, we are selecting a leader for our country. The more you tout religion the more you fall into the stereotype of the MSM and the LEFT, and that doesn’t translate well to the rest of the world. Why not support a true CONSERVATIVE on political issues and leave theology out of it?

LibertyRocks,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yes, I agree about McCain. He will probably have a strong showing - and possibly win - in New Hampshire. Scares me to death also...

Yes, he truly could be the Comeback Geezer.

You said — “Though on more than an occasion or 3, both of us could probably practice a bit harder being more hearable to a wider range of folks.”

Oh..., I know about being strident. But, I’ll tell you, the way I see it, the GOP is taking a lot for granted regarding a lot of Evangelical votes. And there’s a significant segment of the GOP who simply want to placate Evangelicals with a minimum of effort. If this doesn’t change soon, there is going to be a real train wreck, coming down the pike, for the GOP. They had better wake up pretty soon to what is going to happen with the Evangelicals...

Star Traveler

I’m just glad that the polls were so horribly wrong on Mrs. Clinton. They all had her in a draw with Obama and Edwards... It is a beautiful thing. What makes it sweeter is the turnout on the Dem side. It was close to double of the 2004 election. That tells me that people are coming out to vote AGAINST Mrs. Clinton. That is my opinion anyway.

You make some good points there, although I'm not really sure they were coming out to vote against Hillary or to support the "exciting" Obama. Even conservatives like Laura Ingraham were admitting tonight on FNC that there's far more energy on the ground in Iowa for Obama and the 'RAT camps than there is in the GOP camps, including Huckabee's. That worries me...

We're doing fine, thanks. How are you two? We'll be at CPAC in February... will we see you there again? We're not thrilled with the early February date, though. Hope we don't get stuck in yet another snow storm going to/from DC.

Heading to New Hampshire this weekend to take part in some of the GOP activities including a "Presidential brunch" with GOPAC Chairman Michael Steele and some or all of the GOP candidates. I expect to see McCain (yikes) or Romney take NH.

I did think that the win by Huckabee might have the effect of making the evangelical wing of the Republican party get a little more respect. I am part of that wing, though not a Huckabee supporter.
