Bloomberg Moves Closer to Running for President
NYTimes ^ | 12/31/07 | Sam Roberts

Posted on 12/30/2007 6:55:06 PM PST by NYC Republican

Buoyed by the still unsettled field, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is growing increasingly enchanted with the idea of launching an independent presidential bid, and his aides are aggressively laying the groundwork for him to run.

On Sunday, the mayor will join Democratic and Republican elder statesmen at the University of Oklahoma in what the conveners are billing as an effort to pressure the major party candidates to renounce partisan gridlock.

Former Senator David L. Boren of Oklahoma, who organized the session with former Senator Sam Nunn, a Democrat of Georgia, suggested in an interview that if the prospective major party nominees failed within two months to formally embrace bipartisanship and address the fundamental challenges facing the nation, “I would be among those who would urge Mr. Bloomberg to very seriously consider running for president as an independent.”

Next week’s meeting, reported on Sunday in The Washington Post, comes as the mayor’s advisers have been quietly canvassing potential campaign consultants about their availability in the coming months

Bloomberg is a natural for the 2008 battle. He promises to unite all those who are earnestly pro-life with all those who want cheap, easy death. He promises to unite all those who want the US to interdict terrorism with all those who want the US to slink home in shame and apologize to the world. He promises to unite all those who believe in a smaller, less-intrusive government with all those who believe in big brother government who doles out presents to all those who behave. Did I mention that he promises to unite all those who want to disarm Americans with those who have the power to disarm Americans?

Maybe he will get the lion to lie down with the lamb. I'm betting that the lion will go to bed with a full belly. Bloomberg is a disgrace.

... pressure the major party candidates to renounce partisan gridlock

Gridlock is the best thing about the two party system.

What difference does it make what the POTUS candidates think about gridlock? The only way to break the log-jam on a liberal or conservative agenda is to form a congressional super-majority. No one is able to figure out how to win 63 senate seats and 290 congressional seats. Furthermore, with no party loyalty (e.g., Specter, McCain), even said majorities would be no guarantee of implementing an agenda.

Bloomberg may be able to drive the election into the US House of Representatives when the majors fail to top 270 electoral votes. That would assure a rat victory. :-(

A NYT dream. If Bloomberg were mayor of Atlanta, St. Louis, or even Chicago would the NYT be constantly running this up the flag pole?

“A Ross Perot nightmare - for the democrats...”

This is exactly what I was thinking. Bloomberg way too far left to take many votes from the GOP candidate.

Well one of the panelists on Wall Street Journal TV show said last night that Bloomie is going to run, has $2 billion to spend, and it will assure Hillary the Presidency. Sigh.

STONEWALL
Veterans’ Association (S.V.A.)

~~Newzletta~

Wednesday, August 15 — MAYOR BLOOMBERG’S RECEPTION for DISABILITIES HONORS AWARDS

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has long been one of the S.V.A.’s favorite hosts. Besides the formalities and awards, there will be a big outdoor barbeque and festive music. S.V.A.’s posilute representatives include Williamson Henderson, Bert Coffman, Bob Diamond, Elaine and Cece. This private invitation affair is at Ed Koch’s and Rudy’s old house (Gracie Mansion) from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Prominent Acknowledgments:
Among the public officials who responsibly and thoughtfully sent a letter of praise and good will to the S.V.A. for its June 27th anniversary event are the following: U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton (a note and a journal letter), N.Y.S. Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (a letter and a proclamation), U.S. Congressmember Carolyn Maloney (an e-mail and a letter), N.Y.S. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, former N.Y.C. Mayor Ed Koch, current Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (visit to the SW-Vetz at the Gay parade and official letter), N.Y.S. Senator Thomas Duane, N.Y.C. Councilmember Eric Gioia (journal ad), et al.

Tuesday, June 12 — N.Y.C. MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG’S 6th GAY PRIDE CELEBRATION

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg hosts his sixth annual Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgender (”GLBT”) pride celebration. This tradition of N.Y.C. Gay Pride at Gracie Mansion was inaugurated by the S.V.A.’s Honorary Male Chairperson former Mayor Ed Koch. Only the GLBT organization of the STONEWALL Veterans’ Association has been involved since the very beginning. The S.V.A. has been invited and attended every year. Confirmed from the S.V.A. are SW-Vetz Williamson Henderson, Emile Griffith, Storme DeLarverie (w/ sprained ankle), Bert Coffman, Leigh McManus and Betty Bristol in addition to Matthew Samuelson, Gerry Stark, Luis Rodrigo, Gina Wright, Kenni Jones and Ron Ross. Special Stonewall guests are the musical group Village People’s original cowboy Randy Jones and his partner Will Grega. Scheduled time is @ 5 p.m. For S.V.A. confirmations, contact Andre Christie at (212) 6-27-1969. (Due to the limited location, this annual event is always by invitation only.)

Friday, March 9 — TIME MAGAZINE CALLS the S.V.A. re: 2008 PRESIDENTIALS

Do U know Y? Clue: See the “S.V.A. Prominent Supporters”! The investigative female political reporter from Time magazine querried whether the legendary Stonewall veterans organization favored Republican Rudy Giuliani or Democrat Hillary Clinton as the next U.S. President. Williamson asked the reporter: What about Independent Michael Bloomberg? Then, WLH explained in detail that it is much too early in the process. Williamson clarified that the S.V.A. is not a political group and does not “endorse” candidates; however, the S.V.A. has non-political avenues of very effective “support”. [More 411 will come in Time!]

Wednesday, February 14 — HONORARY MEMBER MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG’S BIRTHDAY

Yes, the New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day. No wonder he’s such a sweetheart! Today is his milestone 65th! As in every year since we had candidate Bloomberg as our special guest leading the 2001 Gay Pride Parade, the Mayor received a heartfelt birthday card from the S.V.A.

Bloomberg’s agenda is to get Hillary elected by spliting the independent vote. He is going to campaign to the center-right.

Yeah, probably.

Or, look at it this way: he could split NY enough with Hillary (possibly) that an R could win the state. Dittos for the commuter states (CT, NJ).

Hello President Romney.

New Polls Show Bloomberg Candidacy Would Flip More States To Blue
By Eric Kleefeld - June 20, 2007, 5:18PM
A new batch of polls just out from SurveyUSA provides us with the first detailed snapshot we have yet of the state-by-state effect a Bloomberg candidacy would have on the 2008 Presidential race.

Bottom line: Bloomberg’s impact depends entirely on who the Dem and GOP nominees are, but it’s clear that in more cases, his entry actually flips the states from red to blue than the other way around.

I hope he does run! He will take votes away from Hillary.

Wrong. He will split the independent vote and ensure that Hillary is elected. He is going to campaign as center-right, non-partisan, end-gridlock, fiscal responsible independent.

Again, his agenda is to split the independent vote so Hillary can win with 43-45% of the popular vote.
