Tom Tancredo has scheduled a press conference in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon to make a "major announcement regarding the campaign," according to a media advisory his campaign sent out today.
Asked whether Tancredo intended to drop out of the race, his congressional spokesman, TQ Houlton, said he didn't know. But Houlton didn't affirm that Tancredo was staying in and directed calls to the campaign.
A campaign spokesman didn't immediately reply to an email or voice mail.
Tancredo will appear at the Des Moines Marriott tomorrow at 2:00 Central, according to the advisory.
Despite the fervor Iowa Republicans have over Tancredo's pet issue, immigration, the Colorado congressman has not seen a commensurate bump in the polls. And even though he's run a couple of provocative ads warning about the security threat of illegal immigration, his numbers have remained in the low single-digits.
Perhaps most notably, Tancredo's close friend, Rep. Steve King, passed over his colleague and threw his support behind Fred Thompson this week. King and Tancredo have worked closely on immigration and many in Iowa thought King would not endorse as long as Tancredo was in the race.
A source close to King said they knew of the press conference for tomorrow but didn't know what Tancredo would announce.
True
He’ll endorse either Fred (most likely) or Hunter (also fairly likely.)
It is possible.

***That does not look good for Hunter. It’s getting down to the wire for him. I’m hoping Tanc will endorse him.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

That does not look good for Hunter. Its getting down to the wire for him. Im hoping Tanc will endorse him.
Giving up venues with over 300 potential delegates isn’t a good start to the primary season.....
In his prime, he wrote some very scary books. [rimshot]
All kidding aside, I understand he's an Iowa Republican politician, and so his endorsement should carry some weight among Iowan Cauci participants.
2) An endorsement of Hunter would add nothing statistically poll-wise to Hunter's campaign;
Actually it would about double Hunter's support.
3) Tancredo's buddy, Steve King has endorsed Fred; was that the first act?
It was a rather backhanded endorsement.
4) Fred's standing on immigration, Tancredo's single hot-button issue, has been consistently conservative.
Is that a joke? Thompson opposed holding companies responsible for knowingly hiring criminal aliens. Thompson also supported increased chain migration of legal immigrants and opposes English being the official language.
I have to admit I’m a little glad because his support will go to Duncan Hunter. However, he managed to get on the ballot in some states that Hunter was unable to get on.
No way that Tanc will endorse anyone with any POOR ratings on this list (his MOST important issue):

This guy has been solid since day one. I mean it.
Rarely do you find anyone such as Tom who is unwavering in his commitment on the border.
I am so glad he has been in the race, and he has kept the heat on everyone to have ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION as the top issue, and I hope it stays the top issue regardless what Tancredo does tomorrow. At any rate, my hearty salute goes out to all the Tancredo folks for supporting their man even when the MSM ignores them, or Bushbots insult with "he can't win" kind of crap I am sick of hearing about. I know how it feels.
Which is still next to nothing.
Is that a joke?
No, no joke. Fred has been consistent on immigration. I support him. You don't End of story.
ABSOLUTELY! Three cheers to Tancredo and his camp! True-blue Conservatives, every one!
I like the Tanc. He is not intimidated by the RINOs.
Hunter can afford to not be on some states ballots. But he’s got to make it on the majority of them.
I’d prefer to see a Hunter/Tancredo ticket as opposed to any of the other possibilities including current or former Senators (their records show why they cannot be trusted), lame RINO Governors from LIEberal land, and kook anti-war LIEberaltarians. Tancredo is my second choice if Hunter was not in the race.
I will no longer continue holding my nose for candidates just because they have money and media time. If you don’t support the party platform, there is no reason for you to run for President as a Republican. Last-minute change-of-heart “converts” need not apply.
TANCREDO IS AN EXCELLENT AMERICAN and I have the highest respect for his supporters, and I, too, dont want to vote for the "lesser of two evils" in the General election ANYMORE!!!
This FR forum was ALIVE and ON FIRE for GWB in 2004, because of the alternative.
But look what we got anyway, particularly on the sovereignty and borders issue.
How many illegal aliens have STREAMED into the US since people here on FR VIGOROUSLY (self included) supported "W", one often reflects on these points. Expecting different results by doing the same thing is the classic definition of "insanity". If there is only a RINO vs. a SOCIALIST and there is a viable third alternative (conservative/patriot) I know where I am going.
I saw that too. Which is why I don’t think his announcement is about dropping out. Why go through the primary qualifications and then drop out? Doesn’t make sense to me.
So endorse a moderate or a rock ribbed conservative that has more than championed his #1 issue?
More likely FRed (if handed the nomination - he certainly won't WORK for it) would seek a LIEberal like Rudy, Romney or Huckabee to be his Veep choice since they are all more popular than McLame or if he needs a few dollars even a cut-n-run LIEberal-friendly candidate like Ron Paul since he raises more money than the rest of the field (ask Al Gore or John Kerry about Soros $$$ and media polls turning into votes).
Given your logic, we should both drop our support for our chosen candidate and rush out to rally behind John McCain or one of other media-annointed RINOs....just because the dinosaur media says they can win. After all they were all popular here on FR too, once upon a time and all have had their moment in the sun with phony media polls.
Regardless if they are 1%, 5% or 51% of the vote, Hunter and Tancredo have my support since they are the only ones who are SERIOUS about our nations sovereignty.
