Tom Tancredo has scheduled a press conference in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon to make a "major announcement regarding the campaign," according to a media advisory his campaign sent out today.
Asked whether Tancredo intended to drop out of the race, his congressional spokesman, TQ Houlton, said he didn't know. But Houlton didn't affirm that Tancredo was staying in and directed calls to the campaign.
A campaign spokesman didn't immediately reply to an email or voice mail.
Tancredo will appear at the Des Moines Marriott tomorrow at 2:00 Central, according to the advisory.
Despite the fervor Iowa Republicans have over Tancredo's pet issue, immigration, the Colorado congressman has not seen a commensurate bump in the polls. And even though he's run a couple of provocative ads warning about the security threat of illegal immigration, his numbers have remained in the low single-digits.
Perhaps most notably, Tancredo's close friend, Rep. Steve King, passed over his colleague and threw his support behind Fred Thompson this week. King and Tancredo have worked closely on immigration and many in Iowa thought King would not endorse as long as Tancredo was in the race.
A source close to King said they knew of the press conference for tomorrow but didn't know what Tancredo would announce.
Looks like perhaps a Fred/Tancredo/Hunter coalition to stop Huckabee, Romney, Guilani and now McCain?
Well, on that we can agree to disagree.
DUNCAN HUNTER gets things done! Duncan Hunter actually had a fence built which tremendously cut drug trafficking and crime in San Diego, and Hunter authored the bill for a fence from California thru Texas, which was signed into law, and here’s the fence!

It is a DOUBLE fence with border patrol in-between, and note the CLIMB-PROOF BARRIER at the top.
You have FRmail
I wish you all would quit alluding to the fact that you want the best candidates to quit. What you’re going to end up with is another RINO. Just like Arnuld.
That about sums it up, IMO. And while Hunter isn't yet on board, he's philosophically there. And on THE one vital issue going in to this election (at least as it stands now); immigration.
Why should he endorse Fred?
From TeamTancredo’s blog:

I listened to Tom’s campaign manager, Bay Buchanan, on O’Reilly yesterday (12-18). She failed to plug Tom’s campaign, but she had plenty to say about Hillary. Of course, she was a guest on Bill’s show for the purpose of discussing Hillary, but with Iowa’s caucus TWO WEEKS away, I’m wondering how Tom’s final campaign days in Iowa are going!!!! Can you give us some updates?????

Why not?
1) Fred's standing in the polls has been consistently higher than Hunters;
2) An endorsement of Hunter would add nothing statistically poll-wise to Hunter's campaign;
3) Tancredo's buddy, Steve King has endorsed Fred; was that the first act?
4) Fred's standing on immigration, Tancredo's single hot-button issue, has been consistently conservative.
I see no reason not to.
Bingo...
Think Exon Amendment 2525
I agree, Tancredo should endorse Fred Thompson!
Agreed.
After SC, we need to get the field down to no more than 4 for the Feb 5th primaries. I'd prefer to see 3.
However, we'll probably see Rudy, Huck, Mitt, Fred and McCain.
I believe they all have the will to fight...but Huck and McCain are short of cash to effectively engage for Fed 5th. Ads in 23 states. Travel and organization in 23 states.
That takes big bucks...and maybe even Fred won't be able to compete if he doesn't win something early to get the donations machine started.
Rudy and Mitt have the money...and Rudy the lead in the biggest states.
As a practical matter, of course, Tancredo never had a chance, and he'd end up throwing good money after bad if he stayed in.
Whether he actually drops out depends on whether he can keep a lid on his ego. His ego has led him to be a long-term loudmouth with no chance in the Republican race. I wouldn't be very surprised if he tried to become an "Immigration Reform Party" candidate....
Tom better not pull a Gilchrist.
I'd rather think of: All The Way
08/13/57 Arr: Nelson Riddle
Capitol, StudioCD: Complete Capital Singles
Which I plan to listen to shortly :>)
Do I get a Montecristo?
Take two, you’ll need them, this is about to become a helluva ride...
You should start the FreeKitty party and vote for your own nominee. Tancredo is a great guy, but it is up to the Republican party to say who is the "best candidate". His numbers are too poor and to continue would be to take money from contributors under false pretenses. I hope there is a national role for Tom.
