WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney experienced an irregular heartbeat Monday and will be evaluated at George Washington University Hospital.
The condition was detected when Cheney was seen by doctors for a lingering cough from a cold.
"During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart," said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.

For the benefit of those who have been mistaking things in the process of filling a vacancy in the Vice Presidency: According to the 25th Amendment to the Constitution:
Section 2.
Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

This type is normally treated by cardioversion electric shock to get the heart beating regularly again, my father has had the procedure twice. You feel a bit whacked for a couple of days and sometimes you have to remain on blood thinners if they think you may need the procedure again before you have it done you have to have blood thinners for a few weeks unless you are already on them.
His pacemaker is for the other type of irregular heart beat the more serious one this is the top half which is less serious.

The remainder of the line of succession is the President's Cabinet, by seniority of the department. Secretary of State is First. That is the reason at the State of the Union address one cabinet member is absent, so that if the Government is taken out by an attack at that time, there would still be a President.

That’s good! In a way,,,,, My Mom had a pacemaker, and went into fibrillation and died. That’s what worried me.

A pacemaker cannot correct that situation - only a Defib because the Defib had Capacitors that can charge up and deliver the jolt in Joules.
A Pacemaker can only Pace and adapt the Heart Rate through an Accelerometer that senses movement.
