WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney experienced an irregular heartbeat Monday and will be evaluated at George Washington University Hospital.

The condition was detected when Cheney was seen by doctors for a lingering cough from a cold.

"During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart," said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.

I have wished that Dick Cheney were our candidate for the presidency, but he isn’t. He would win. I’ve no doubt.

However, lots of folks have irregular heartbeats.

We need a bit more detail.

Maybe someone’s afraid he’ll enter the race.

Shep is breathless over the idea.

Shep is a waste of oxygen.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Dick Cheney, but you and I have as good a chance to get elected POTUS has he does. Too many negatives to ever get elected.

The position will not be filled, unless he has to leave for some reason. Then the president with confirmation of Congress can replace him.

The pecking order of taking over as President is, President, VP, Speaker of The House, Senate Pro Tem.

Only somewhat disgusted? Shep is salivating for Cheney to resign immediately. His second choice would be for a massive heart attack.

I swore after Katrina I wouldn't watch him again, and if my husgand hadn't tuned i I wouldnot have been subject to Shep's obnoxious coverage!

Are we sure this didn’t originate at DU or KOSS?

They’ve been claiming Cheney didn’t have a heartbeat for years.

I like Dick Cheney. I don’t see eye to with him on every topic, but the man has backbone, more than I can say for most Republican officials these days.

Goodspeed Mr. Vice-President. We’re rooting for a speedy return to a clean bill of health.

Modern medicine is truly wonderful. Irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation) can be controlled by medication or a shock to the heart (cardioversion). However, due to VP Cheney's longstanding heart problems, don't know if these would be effective.

However, he left the hospital after the diagnosis and will return later to the hospital for a cardioversion and will be home tonight so that indicates it is treatable.

Shep is an idiot...

Better question ~ Who would be the next VP under President Bush and can he/she be confirmed by the Senate (they are in session) before the next General Election?

I hate to see anything bad happen to the VP ... but as someone said the Dems are cheering (you know they are.).

I thought a-fib was probably what he’s experiencing, my husband has had it before. They have meds to try to get the heart into a more normal rhythm, and if that doesn’t work, they may resort to ‘shocking’ it back. It’s not life-threatening, it’s just the doctor’s don’t like it to continue for too long, because then blood clots may develop. They probably have him on blood thinners right now as a precaution. Just my 2 cents from experience.

Lets put it this way, if he has to step down then the screaming from the far left of impeaching Bush will be so loud that the MSM will be chomping at the bit to get Nanci in office the back door way...
