I've seen up close the two Clintons America knows. He's a big smile, hand locked on your arm and lots of charms. "Hey, come down and speak at my library. I'd like to talk some politics with you."
And her? She tends to be, well, hard and brittle. I inherited her West Wing office. Shortly after the 2001 Inauguration, I made a little talk saying I appreciated having the office because it had the only full-length vanity mirror in the West Wing, which gave me a chance to improve my rumpled appearance. The senator from New York confronted me shortly after and pointedly said she hadn't put the mirror there. I hadn't said she did, just that the mirror was there. So a few weeks later, in another talk, I repeated the story about the mirror. And shortly thereafter, the junior senator saw me and, again, without a hint of humor or light in her voice, icily said she'd heard I'd repeated the story of the mirror and she
did
not
put
that mirror in the office.

A friend of mine who was the only Republican in a family of heavy-hitter Democratic fundraisers (they were all lawyers except him) was invited to dinner at the White House during the '90s. He told me that at one point, an aide offered him a private tour.
When they were in Hillary's office after hours, the aide was paged to an urgent call and left for a couple of minutes. He said he suddenly realized he was all alone in Hillary Clinton's office! So he decided to look around. He noticed a little room off to the side. There was a huge picture of Hillary on the middle of the far wall, and it was surrounded by dozens of other photos. He assumed it was just photos of Hillary with celebrities and world leaders, as many prominent people might have. Then he realized that, no, they were all pictures of Hillary alone. He said he began laughing in astonishment as he realized that he was standing in a shrine...Hillary's shrine to herself!
No, I will not tell you his name, for his own protection. But I swear, he is the real deal. I know his wealthy family, and he's my longtime financial advisor.
I say, why wait til next year? Let's beat her now!
Hey thanks for this post!
I don’t normally check out Newsweak.
But the comments at the end of the column by the left wing loonies are telling...
What a perfect analogy!!
Doesn’t surprise me.....she’s quite the narcissist.
“Please tell me that the American people will see through her facade before November 2008.”

IMO, the big mistake Her Thighness made was starting her campaign way too early. 18 months of Hitlery? Who will like her after seeing that much of her?
Voting booth? I need the crapper, I’m going to upChuck!!
How to beat hillary? LOL - win more votes in the Electorial College than she does.
Reading the comments on the Newsweek article is truly enlightening about the Liberal mind. Scary.
Actually, Hillary can be beaten by speaking Female as it were.
Rove was genius at taking an opponent’s strength and making it a weakness, to beat Hillary, pound her on things like lack of action on “Equal Pay” that she never moved for in the Senate, stuff like that.
The Dhimmis are planning on the male vote being split on Iraq, and the Female vote going to Hillary along with new single female voters registering and Voting Hilde, why not give them reasons not to vote for Hillary?

That is really creepy.
Wait a minute. Isn’t thay what Kerry had in his office during the last Presidential run? IIRC it was a shrine to himself.
I heard a pollster on Neal Boortz last night say Hillary has the independent women locked up in the states where the GOP needs them, and she will win easily against any of the current crop.
I agree, Rove's advice should be definitely considered and taken seriously.
I think the most important point is not to underestimate her.
"It is a small but telling story: she is tough, persistent and forgets nothing. Those are some of the reasons she is so formidable as a contender, and why Republicans who think she would be easy to beat are wrong. "
Add to that the vast Clinton machine that has been built up in the last 15 years.
She is beatable, but not easily. The ultimate Republican nominee needs to understand that. Rove gives a lot of good, specific advice.
“I heard a pollster on Neal Boortz last night say Hillary has the independent women locked up in the states where the GOP needs them, and she will win easily against any of the current crop.”
That would seem to be an area that needs to be addressed, if “we” just sit back and allow Hillary to easily when that demographic we will need a near record turnout of base vote to make up for it, and the base isn’t thrilled with “our” guys.
To me, the base is our first problem, that needs to be addressed first, then move on to the independents.
That and it’s a year out, Boortz’s crystal ball is just as murky as anyone else’s.
psychopath...
“any campaign advice from him should be considered.”
Like this piece? “Aggressively campaign for the votes of America’s minorities.” Rove’s an idiot and that’s being kind.
The Wicked Queen and the Seven Dwarves
Duncan Hunter can’t beat the margin of error much less Hillary.
