:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
U.S. to Offer Turkey Help on PKK

The U.S. is to offer Turkey a package of measures to dissuade Ankara from mounting a large-scale military incursion into Iraq to attack PKK Kurdish guerrillas, who have killed scores of Turkish soldiers in recent weeks.

Ahead of a meeting in Washington on Monday between President George W. Bush and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s prime minister, U.S. officials said Ankara would have to get concrete American help to combat the PKK, which has bases in northern Iraq from where it frequently launches attacks into Turkey.

“Erdogan has to go back with the belief that for whatever reason, the U.S. is serious” about tackling Turkey’s concerns regarding the PKK, said Matthew Bryza, deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. state department responsible for Turkey policy. Full story...

Well now, that doesn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

That said, 1 bad apple out of a basket of good apples doesn’t make all the rest bad apples.

Yep.

Jihad — another day.

“Dr. Atef’s guide to poison gasses [redacted]”

#

RECAP from TELEGRAPH.co.uk:

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “30/10/2007 - Counter-terrorism police are hunting a terror gang suspected of trying to manufacture mustard gas.
A nationwide alert has been sent out after a Libyan walked into an accident and emergency unit asking for an antidote for the gas.

The man said he needed the antidote for a “friend back home” who had been affected by the gas, but police do not believe his story.

The incident at a hospital in Manchester last week has sparked fears that a terror cell may have set up a chemical bomb factory.

A medical source told The Daily Telegraph: “Officers have alerted every force and every accident and emergency unit in the country. They believe a group may have succeeded in making the gas and could use it in an attack.”

The source added: “Staff were alerted because it takes several days to develop symptoms, by which time it is too late to treat them, but before they could get more details the man left the hospital.”

A source at Greater Manchester Police said: “We do not believe there is any concrete plot but we are continuing to investigate.””

Yes but it just goes to show what they are cable of and exactly what the media can’t comprehend.

To us here at Tm we would be aware of a small scale attack.

But I disagree that it will be all over the media.

They refuse to do there job. They wouldn’t know a small
scale attack from they everyday instances that are going
on now.

Just a thought, maybe FreeRepublic.com and a whole slew of blogs are successful because the news is frankly discussed.

I agree.

But I think the want an attack that will be carried by the media, nbc, fox and the like.

But that won’t happen there because they don’t have a clue.

There have been too many things happen that they don’t catch wind of or follow up on.

America wouldn’t know if a small scale attack occurred because they wouldn’t follow up on it.

Oh, ok I see what you are saying.

OPINION:

GENERALLY SPEAKING...

Yes, jihadis do like publicity.
They crave attention and want their
“glorious” jihad deeds broadcasted
globally and to the largest audiences
possible.

That is why the internet has proved such
a useful tool for the jihadis. The internet
IS their world wide media outlet.

The internet has allowed the global jihad
to get their message out; therefore bypassing
the main-stream media.

The antidote / first aid for mustard gas exposure , get to high ground, clear air and disrobe and dicard contaminated clothing and the cure is a fast bath aka skin wash down with clean water and flushing of the eyes for at least 6-12 minutes.......

There is no antidote per se...... This Arab is a dead man as we know a bath in and if itself will kill him !........:o)

According to reports by the time they got into the bag everything was completely burned. I have read the accounts and really find it hard to believe what they are giving as an explanation.

Yep, Oorang caught that article.

Excellent observation Cindy. IMHO Oorang is one of the best researchers we have on TM and FR. I am consistently amazed by what she finds "on the web" and shares with us.

Coalition, Afghan Forces Kill Enemy Fighters

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13, 2007 – Afghan national security forces and coalition forces engaged and killed a large group of insurgents today near the Deh Rawod district of Afghanistan’s Oruzgan province.

The combined force was conducting a reconnaissance patrol when a large group of insurgents engaged the patrol with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. The Taliban fighters attempted to break contact and moved into a nearby compound, causing women and children to flee the area.

Shortly after the combined force determined the enemy’s positions, four separate precision air strikes effectively eliminated the insurgents who were trying to reinforce the enemy positions. Afghan and coalition forces assaulted the positions, conducting a thorough exploitation of the engagement area, officials said.

“The Taliban continues to take up defensive positions in heavily populated areas and use women and children as protection,” said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force 82 spokesman. “The Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition forces remain devoted to uprooting Taliban insurgents in Oruzgan province.”

In other recent operations in Afghanistan:

— Coalition and Afghan security forces yesterday detained six Taliban-linked suspects in Wardak province. Afghan and coalition forces detained the six individuals during a search of buildings in the Nerkh district.

— Coalition forces killed 15 insurgents and detained two suspects linked to terrorist activities in Helmand province Nov. 11. Coalition forces found a woman and two children dead in a collapsed building, along with several militants and their weapons. “We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased,” Belcher said. “When militants knowingly engage coalition forces with innocent people in the background, it only shows the extremists’ complete disregard for innocent lives. Coalition members take every precaution possible to protect civilians not taking part in hostilities from harm.”

— Coalition forces and Afghan soldiers and police saved the lives of six citizens after a suicide-bomber attack that killed the bomber and injured five men and a child in Gereshk, in Helmand province, Nov. 10. Afghan soldiers and police quickly formed security cordons after the blast. The causalities were taken to a local medical facility for treatment.

— Also on Nov. 10, Afghan soldiers and police and coalition forces defeated a group of Taliban insurgents during a firefight in the Khas Oruzgan district of Oruzgan province. The combined forces gave chase after they forced the enemy out of civilian residents’ homes. “It is simply deplorable how the Taliban try to put innocent Afghan citizens in harm’s way,” Belcher said. “Fortunately, highly trained (Afghan forces) cleared the houses, saving Afghan lives.”

(Compiled from Combined Joint Task Force 82 news releases.)

Ya know, if they want to do small scale attacks, would our media even be inclined to see it as such.

Even when the media does point out possible attacks, authorities typically tell us it's nothing and to move along....... How many times have we rolled our eyes at the disclaimer, and never hear another word about the incident?
