Father Waylays Daughter's Lover
Manchester Union Leader ^ | September 22, 2007 | Greta Cuyler

Posted on 09/22/2007 6:21:10 AM PDT by Jim Noble

WEARE – A father attacked his daughter's boyfriend last week after learning the boy had sex with the underage girl, police said.

It was about 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, when the man stormed onto the grounds of John J. Stark High School and beat up the 17-year-old from Henniker. School was just letting out, and many students witnessed the attack, said Detective Lou Chatel.

The boy suffered bruising and later received two stitches to his face.

The father was charged with simple assault, a Class B felony.

Police said the boy is dating the man's 15-year-old daughter.

The man discovered the two had had sex earlier that day, during school hours but not on school property, police said.

Under state law, a 15-year-old cannot consent to sex; therefore, police are investigating the allegation as a sexual assault.

The New Hampshire Union Leader has a policy of not identifying sexual assault victims. For that reason, the newspaper is not identifying the father.

Both students attend John Stark High School. The girl lives in Weare.

Chatel said there have been no arrests in the sex case, but he expects there will be.

It’s high school. They start at 7:15 in the morning and are out, usually around 1:30 or 2.

Your definition of a man is someone who assaults a child on school property in front of other children?

A 17 year old young man who's been schtupping a 15 year old girl is not a CHILD, and neither is she.

Apparently the high school has a policy that allows the kids to leave campus in the middle of the day to do whatever they want. Maybe the parents of the town ought to look into THAT practice, as well.

we would have spent a couple days together playing Apache

If this were our son...the father of the girl wouldn't have to worry....my husband would teach him a very valuable if not painful lesson

Lol, I note the complete lack of interest in discussing the real life situation where the girl is the older and the boy under the age of consent. It happens.

If this situation were reversed, how many years do you think a seventeen year-old daughter should spend in prison?

And would you hunt down the fifteen year-old boy and beat him up?

Yes, and if it had been your son, wouldn't you want that opportunity?

Or would you want the girl's father to send him to the hospital first?

If it were my son, I'd expect him to face the music. He broke the law, he'd need to deal with the consequences. Of course, I'd also press charges of battery against the dad. If I'm going to teach respect for the law, I should teach respect for all of the law.

I’m not saying the age of consent should changed, but it should protect teenagers from adults, not from other teens and schoolmates who freely choose to date each other.

No one is saying they shouldn't DATE, but enforcing the law might just make them think twice before they start having sex, because starting sexual relationships so early will increase the possibility of doing real damage to their futures.

I think the dad of the daughter should have went to the boys parents
then he should have went to the police and made sure the boy got some trouble
then I hope he disciplined his daughter because she too is guilty in this not just the boy regardless of her being 15

A heard a speaker once talk about the nature of men. He basically said that men can be either predators or protectors.

In this case the 17-year-old was the predator, and the father was the protctor.

It might send a message. But what's the message? Will daughter leave home, never to return, the minute she turns 18?

If she's REALLY stupid, she will. If she gives it more than a couple of minute's thought, she might just see WHY her father did what he did. She may not like it, but she'll understand it, and maybe cut him some slack. If she gets some brains from the incident, she might even think about NOT falling for the 'if you love me you would', crap from her next boyfriend, and keep her legs shut tight.

And if the boy had been fifteen and the girl seventeen, your opinion would be the same? A sexual assault on the underage boy?

Bad premise.

Boys aren't girls.

Okay, before I read the comments below as I just click in...my first reaction was....DOES NOT THIS GIRL HAVE A VOICE?

Aren’t we, if I understand this right, talking about a 17 year old boy and a 15 year old girl? Come on.

I’m just not at all clear why this man felt the need to beat up that boy for God’s sake. Not that he should beat up his daughter but by me you’re looking at a situation involving two fairly close in age adolescents and they both engaged in sex and they’re both stupid and dumb.

Now supposing that boy’s father beat up that girl for seducing his son?

I’m just saying....

I enjoyed your rant but I softly suggest....

...the boy was 17 years old and the girl was 15.

In some parts of the world this is a very typical adolescent age differentiation.

If she’s a child then that boy’s...an adult?

Ok. I can’t argue common sense.

“No one is saying they shouldn’t DATE, but enforcing the law might just make them think twice before they start having sex, because starting sexual relationships so early will increase the possibility of doing real damage to their futures.”

In consensual situations, age of consent laws seem never to be enforced unless a parent learns that their child is involved in teen sex. The kids aren’t exactly turning themselves in.

Age of consent laws are not the place to try to reduce teen sex. Do you really want large numbers of teens - male AND female - going to prison or facing some other penalty for what about 60% and more are doing before finishing high school? Find other ways to discourage teen sex. These laws are to protect teens for adults, not from each other, unless you get out to four and five years age difference.

We have three sons and one daughter. The older two boys got a real lesson in early sexual activity when one of our nephews got married at the age of 18; he is 8 months older than our #1 son. When we told them that he'd gotten married, they asked why, since they knew how old he was. We then told them it was because he'd gotten his girlfriend pregnant. We reminded them that if they engaged in the activity, they needed to be responsible for the outcome, and do the right thing by the girl and their baby. We also pointed out just how much that would limit both their futures and the future of the baby, so it was easier all around not to get into the situation to begin with!

We reminded them that when they turned 18, they were on their own and responsible for their own actions. The point was well taken.

Our daughter has learned that lesson well, too, and I believe, will handle herself well. She's off to college now, a sophomore. But she chose a small Catholic university that doesn't have co-ed dorms, and doesn't encourage a whole lot of hanging out in the dorm rooms between male and female students. The school's emphasis is RESPECT for each individual, and she likes the fact that both the young men and the young women take that idea to heart.

The instinct to beat up the boyfriend is understandable, but the law does not allow assault in "understandable" situations. It only allows it to protect someone from imminent harm.

There you go injecting logic and common sense into the argument...

Your Daddy may have just been a mean SOB. I had a Granddaddy like that, or so my Daddy told me. There was nothing in the story about him having gone home and been abusive to the daughter; I’d think that would have been covered, because SOMEONE would know about it!

Well you’re doing a pretty good job of arguing common sense.

Kudos.
