Armed police were called after a family visiting relatives were robbed by 10 masked men, two with guns.
The driver was parked near his parents' home in Eldon Road, Luton, on Thursday evening when a gang surrounded his car.
He fled on foot towards a nearby bridge but two of the offenders caught him and took his car keys, police said.
His brother and a friend also ran away but were not followed. Two girls aged 13 and six left in the car were made to hand over clothing and mobiles phones.

And that's putting it diplomatically!
There is no justification for two adult males to run away and leave two young girls at the mercy of armed thugs
Thank God this didn't turn into more then just a robbery
Oh, fiddle-faddle! To run away when threatened by a gun is not "instinctive", however to protect one's offspring -- to the point of laying down one's life -- is. These men were cowards. There's no other word for it.
"All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood," -- George S. Patton
Note to Freepers, Luton has one of the highest proportion of muslim population of any town in the UK at 15%. Draw your own conclusions from there.
‘Can we think of any places like that in the US?’
I can think of many cities in the US that have a higher murder rate than the whole of the UK has. . . .
I’m just not seeing your point?? What could it be??
kidding
‘If men were allowed to own guns, these thugs wouldnt have gotten away with this.’
Well, as men are allowed to own guns in America, I can only assume that this type of crime never happens in the US. . . . . .
Yes, post-Katrina Houston Texas.
If the driver was able to get out of the car and run away he should have been able to have run over a bunch of the scum as he drove away.
These were unarmed British men who ran........and I wish your logic worked.
‘These were unarmed British men who ran........and I wish your logic worked.’
It does. You say this would not happen if the men could own guns. Well in America you can own guns and it still happens, so your logic is false.
The right to own and the right to carry are two different things. Where the U. S. citizen is allowed to carry, this sort of thing is much rarer.
Brave Sir Robin ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
He is packing it in and packing it up
And sneaking away and buggering up
And chickening out and pissing off home,
Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge...
‘I was merely pointing out how this could happen anywhere in the world.’ Arent you glad youre not here?’
And I was merely pointing out that this is such an unusual crime in the UK that despite there being no injuroes or deaths, it made the national news.
‘Arent you glad youre not here?’
No, I enjoy my regular visits to the US, be they business or pleasure. Living in England makes me appreciate the good and bad points of the US.
For men who carry, do you think THEY would have left behind their six year old daughter? THAT is my point.
It IS a choice in a lot of America whether to be armed or not. The British have no such choice. And the police do not all carry there.......so what do the thugs have to fear?So far they have escaped.
Perhaps the father was Muslim. No, seriously. I might be wrong, but this was a young family, several kids...
I’m willing to bet it was an “Asian” family where the father tried to save the car keys rather than his own kids. Lovely, just lovely.
‘Brave Sir Robin ran away.’
You might want to re-title that Sir Mohammed as the family in the car owe their allegiance to a certain prophet. . . . . . . ;-)
Camden New Jersey and Gary Indiana are two places to avoid.
‘Perhaps the father was Muslim.’
I wouldn’t bet against you on that one. . . . . ;-)
