Disaster Looms in Pakistan

Decorum was abandoned as accusations ricocheted between the wood-panelled walls of Pakistan's national assembly on Monday night. "Murderers! Murderers of innocent people!" screamed an MP from a religious party, his yellow turban shaking as he wagged a finger towards the government benches.

Five female parliamentarians, their faces concealed behind black and white burkas, slapped the benches with open palms. Another mullah stood up and started shouting. The speaker strained to maintain order.

Others were less captivated by the debate on last month's siege of the Red Mosque, in which more than 100 people died. One man snoozed at his desk. Across the vast hall others started whispered conversations. And high above them Muhammad Ali Jinnah, a dapper man with a pinched, clean-shaven face, looked on impassively from his giant portrait on the wall. Full story...

Tour buses at Grand Canyon targeted in state inspection

PHOENIX - All tour buses and large passenger vans entering Grand Canyon National Park’s busiest entrance will be targeted for inspections later this week.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau and National Park Service will conduct the comprehensive safety inspections Wednesday through Friday at the park’s south entrance.

DPS says 50 officers will take part in the inspections.

DPS Lieutenant Bernard Gazdzik says while Arizona hasn’t had a major bus accident in recent years, it’s important that law enforcement

Suspicious Device Found at Houston's Intercontinental Airport
Monday, 20 Aug 2007

HOUSTON -- Authorities are responding the scene of a bomb threat at Houston's Intercontinental Airport after a suspicious device was found in a food preparation area.

A report says police received a call about 6:40 a.m. Monday about a device with wires hanging out of it at Chelsea Food Services on the grounds of the airport in north Houston. Houston police were called in to handle crowd control as nearby buildings were evacuated.
