Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View." ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.
It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.
O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.
"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"
Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.
"Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe," Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.
According to a New York Post report, O'Donnell's chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in "The View" studios. ABC executives didn't return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.
On Thursday O'Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner's birthday. "The View" aired a taped show on Friday.
On her Web site, O'Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at "The View." Cyndi Lauper's "Sisters of Babylon" played in the background.
A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.
"When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done," she wrote. "Any more would take away."
Is it getting hot in here?
I think Michelle Malkin should replace Rosie.
Thanks for your reply. I do understand that airheads like Rosie have a huge impact upon other airheads. But, she'll just be replaced by another airhead, maybe even more outrageous than she supposedly is. It's full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
And BTW, this is why the Framers didn't let you wimenfolk vote. Sure there are a whole lot who are more politically savvy than a significant number of men. But cut that down to taxpaying men and it's still some but no longer a "whole lot."

Aw, poor baby. Most of us have “issues.” Most of us have had some rough spots in our lives. Some have had to deal with things a lot more horrendous than Miz Rosie has ever had. But the difference is that most of us solve our problems or we rise above them, or we deal with them. We don’t go around blaming others for whatever is wrong in our lives. We deal with whatever and move on.
Instead of whining and moaning and blaming her troubles on the President and everyone and everything else, Miz Rosiee should fall on our knees and thank God (or her lucky stars or whatever she might believe in) that she lives in a country that has given her and the rest of us the freedom and the opportunity to be successful and to live a heckuva lot better than in many other parts of the world where dictatorial and/or religious oppression, grinding poverty, lack of education, starvation and disease are the norm, rather than the exception.
Despite its problems, the U.S. is still the greatest country in the world. And Miz Rosie and far too many others just don’t realize how good they have it, or how lucky they are to live here than anywhere else.
Hey, now I have an excuse to check out rod and reel combos at Bass Pro Shops!
I think you’re right — she just needs George Clooney to give her some charitable attention and then maybe she won’t hate the world so much..... :^)
But since that’s never gonna happen, she’ll have to settle for Michael Moore! [now there’s a match straight out of leftist hell, can you imagine how screwed up their kids would be???]
Well...all they need then is the two lb test line, you forgot it’s being tied to Rosie...that takes care of the “LOTS of very heavy weights.”
What will ABC do with those wierd tv lenses designed to make Rosie look thin now?
Silverstone is a pleather wearing Vegan headcase. O'Donnell, Behar and Silverstone are dumb as dogcrap and not quite as appealing to view.
They can return them for a refund ‘cause they sure as shoot didn’t work!
Donald Trump Applauds Rosie O’Donnell’s Exit From ‘The View’

The love-hate relationship between Trump and O’Donnell continues ...
‘The Donald’ just couldn’t resist another shot at Rosie after hearing of her departure from ‘The View’ this afternoon, saying, “A great service was done by getting her off the airwaves ... she’s a disaster.”
The billionaire blowhard offered his pointed barbs to MSNBC this afternoon, just minutes after Rosie announced her departure ... and they were like a greatest hits compilation of Trump’s Ro disses. “She’s not a very smart person,” check. “She’s disgusting to look at,” check. “She’s aggressive,” check. Of course, he had to get in a dig at Elisabeth Hasselbeck, calling her a “dimwit.” Trump is against the Iraq war, reports our friends at TMZ.

In a September 2006, People magazine interview, Barbara Walters said the following:
“I’m counting on Rosie’s intelligence and sensitivity and humor,” she tells Newsweek. “This is, after all, an entertainment show. It is based on people who like each other and are having a good time, not on people who are arguing and unhappy.”
LOL!

Well, well, well. Looks like the little scrawny kid who was being picked on by the big fat bully finally threw some punches back, sending the bully running away in tears! It does my heart good to see Elisabeth Hasselbeck getting the last laugh. And she put Rosie on the canvas without resorting to name calling, half-truths, tinfoil hat theories, and partisan smears, all of which are in both Rosie's and Joy's repertoire.Face facts, Rosie fans: Elisabeth was right. When you do things like ask the question "Who are the terrorists?" with the clear implication the answer in mind is "The U.S.A.," you had better have the balls to defend your own words. But instead, Rosie tried to use her "friend" Elisabeth as a human shield against charges Rosie should be addressing herself. Is that what Rosie teaches her kids? Dont stand up for yourself, drag other people around to stand up for you! And Elisabeths the coward?
Rosie knows good and well the answer to "Who are the terrorists?" are the troops she claims to "support," but she cant afford to admit it. IMHO, she cant return to The View because eventually, she would have to provide the ONLY logical answer. She torpedoed herself by not controlling her yapper.
Barbara Walters is probably unaware that Hasselbeck's overdue counterattack saved Baba's reputation as a news icon (for now). Rosie, who seized the show in a bloodless coup, planned to use The View to legitimize the conspiracy kooks whose lies she regurgitates like a nauseous gorilla. But Walters probably will only hire antiwar, pro-choice gals to continue the unfair and unbalanced nature of the show -- she can't stand a fair fight, as she showed when she shared a desk with John Stossel. And for those of you who think Rosies on to bigger things, dream on. Shes heading down the Roseanne spiral. Its over for Rosie on TV. Shes done. And all it took was someone getting back in her face!
THE WINNER! THE BLONDE BOMBER -- ELISABETH HASSELBECK!
I hope you all realize this is pure crap by ABC.
Rosie had one month to go on her contract.
ABC knew she was upsetting a lot of viewers.
so...............
ABC cans Rosie to redeem themselves in the eyes of conservatives.
The fact that they let her go on for the past year+ without scolding, warnings, etc shows where their true feelings are.
Not odd. Rosie wants to be the next Jerry Springer. So sge launches the attack to: reduce Elisabeth to tears (and as a bonus, admitiinmg she was a "bad friend" for not defending Rosie). Result Rosie leaves the show, having proved that she's strong, and that everybody (even the Christian conservative chick) luvvs her.
But she forgot, or didn't think she needed, to give a copy of the script to Dlisabeth.
So whether it was pregnant women hormones, or sneaky Survivor chick knowing the right time to go 100 pound gorilla, it didn't play that way.
