Disgusting, but somehow not surprising... Unfortunately. :(

Unfortunately, not all the spouses left behind have been hanging up the yellow ribbons and keeping the home fires burning....if this gets your Irish up, you’ll love this little nugget. Seems the local talent up here in Watertown, NY (and surrounding communities) BTW, W’town is the home of the 10th Mountain Division...anyway, these little tarts will marry soldiers getting ready to deploy (they seem to prefer infantry types), and then divorce them when they get back...why do you ask? Because they didn’t die. That’s right, these little b&%*@%s are marrying these guys, just so they become the beneficiary of the soldiers SGLI, that BTW is why the specifically target infantry, higher mortality rate. And when these guys come back alive, it disappoints the little whore.

I can understand the concern here and I do not like it, but be realistic. He was a fool for leaving everything in her name while he was gone. If it were me I would have put it into a trust or written a POA document that required two individuals one being a neutral party or better yet appoint two neutrals. That would end this kind of stuff. She is a dirt bag but even dirt bags can be controlled

Quite a few of the civvie contractors in Iraq had this same kind of thing happen to them. One guy’s wife informed him she was getting a divorce less than a month after he arrived (three kids, very nice new house).

I heard through the grapevine of several checking accounts being raided, and vaguely recall one instance of the house being sold without his knowledge. Some guys were so wiped out that they had to extend their time in Iraq to avoid complete bankruptcy.

I wouldn’t say it was “common”, but it did happen in all too many cases.

It’s females like this that give the rest of us a bad name.
I used to work at a medical school hospital and know guys who married so their wives could put them through school. It’s a two way street. You just need to know the person well enough before you actually get married.

She won’t see any jail time. The reality is that this type of underhanded BS happens every day in this country when couples are divorcing, and family court judges are pretty jaded about it. The worst she’ll face is an order to pay him half of any equity she took from the home sale. Even if he finds an overzealous DA willing to throw criminal charges at her, most judges are going to look at this as the fallout from a divorce, and aren’t going to hand her anything stiffer than probation (legally, as his spouse, she had some claim to the assets she was “stealing”, so nobody is going to imprison her).

A few years ago I was told this story from a Navy officer attending an Army school.

In Hawaii, the carrier went out for its deployment of 5-6 months. A day out, the ship had problems and came back to port but didn’t inform anyone. Lots of sailors got home and their wives boyfriends had already moved into the house. Lots of divorcees was the results. This was in the early to mid 90s.
