JIM ROBINSON AS THE NEW JOSEPH FARAH - STABBING THE CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT IN THE BACK [Re:Giuliani]
On one the few rational minds left around here - but for long | 4/24/2007 | Al Simmons

Posted on 04/24/2007 10:22:39 AM PDT by Al Simmons

About me:

Lurker - since 1998

Member - since 1999

In self-imposed exile - since April 2007

The tone of the debate and the attacks on long-time fellow Freepers for the cardinal sin of daring to support Rudy Giuliani in early 2007 around here have really saddened me. Instead of fighting the enemy FR is now imposing an 'ideological purity' test on FR members. The well-oiled train has gone off the rails and Mr. Robinson risks becoming the next Joe Farah - a fellow who started a great website for conservative news and opinions, but who gradually drifted off to la-la land, losing all credibility - and readership - in the process.

He has set himself squarely in the Internet media spotlight, doused himself with gasoline, and and lighted himself on fire - a fact that has not escaped the attention of the left-wing lunatics at Daily Kos. Their reporting on what has been going on at FR is perhaps the first factually true account published on their site.

Jim, if that quote of yours about setting up an organization to 'Swiftboat Rudy' is accurate as quoted in their article, the only thing I have to say to you is that you ought to be ashamed of yourself, as you have now become the back-stabber of the conservative cause.

If you wish to marginalize this site by turning it into a narrow "several-issue" forum, that is your right. Just as it is my right to choose to not participate here any longer.

But you will be disappointed if you think that the crude, illiterate "goon squad" you have allowed free rein around here (dmw, narses, dirtboy, extremely extreme extremist, ReaganMan and several others - if I have slighted anyone, please email me if you want onto this list) will elevate the level of intellectual debate.

The result has been predictably in the other direction. That is what happens when you hire a bunch of brown shirts to enforce your own brand of political correctness.

Well, guess what? Politics is 99% BS and one can quite nicely live one's life without the need to bloviate about it. I know how I am going to vote. I could care less about anyone else. Life is too short to waste my time around here when I am clearly one of those made to feel like they are not welcome.

So, go ahead Jim -

MAKE MY DAY. BAN ME. I DARE YOU.

For someone who has been around here for as long as you have, you must be used to the ebb and flow of opinion and control. For example, if Rudy wins the nomination, I expect the tide will turn in "your" favor.

If you can't stand posters on a certain thread, don't read it. Don't post to it.

If FR is embarrassing to you (and, yes, occasionally it can be), just quit. (Re: anything being said about FR or JimRob at Kos... frankly, my give-a-shit-ometer can't really crank up for that one.)

Either way, this opus (that kind of isn't) isn't really worth it, and I don't see why the challenge to ban you -- just say, "Hey, this place sucks. Erase my acount, please." FReepmail is quite handy for that.

Good luck to you. Hope this vanity was more cathartic for you than just a regular flame war.

(I can never understand why folks take things here so personally, and I've seen it a whole bunch of times.)

“closet lib.”

Not by a long shot. But I wouldn’t be surprised if some of y’all were, aiming to destroy what could be our strongest candidate against the Rats — and to degrade FReep discussion so it’s less attractive.

Rudy is part of the Conservative movement? First I’ve heard of it.

Thanks for your intelligent post, Dawg. These have become all too rare on the Rudy threads.

Now that is truly incoherent. Rudy Toot is in no way shape or form a conservative. It stands to reason that his supporters aren’t either.

Most of the bitterness and invective that I have seen on the subject of Mr. Giuliani has come from the Rudy partisans. Much of the anti-Rudy posting has been a lot more civil and considered. How are we stabbing Conservatives in the back by opposing a thoroughgoing man of the Left?

What you didn’t know that John McCain was brought on ethics charges for allegedly raping the wife of a former POW? It was when he was in Congress. He got off on the charges by claiming that the woman was drunk and came on to him, but the woman didn’t imbibe, and still doesn’t, as far as I know. I don’t have copy of any of the articles, but I thought that it was a well known fact.

I honestly don’t have a clue what this post was meant or supposed to do other than to get FReepers fighting against each other, to be used as fodder for liberal groups to show the division within the conservative community, i.e. Kos and DU.

Who cares what they think? Rudy maybe?

Once the field is reduced to those who will seriously contend, the discussion should begin WITHOUT the name calling etc..

That would be a first. Discussion over every candidate since I've been here has included name calling. If you don't like it don't do it.

IMHO this looks like the DU on this thread, only the names are Guiliani, Hunter, etc..and not Hillary, Obama and Edwards..it’s times like this that I’m ashamed to be associated with FR.

Not ashamed enough to leave I take it?

Can we cut to the chase?

So far, we have Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, and McCain leading. Who and where is the conservative in that batting order? On the key issue: Abortion; G, R, and T have all been outspokenly pro-choice in previous campaigns. Rudy and Romney did everything but hold the flashlight for abortions in their districts. McC hasn't spoken up against abortion on the floor of the Senate. Now, of course they are all tripping overthemselves to establish right-to-life positions, which I happen to believe they'll deliver, if selected, and then elected.

Rudy has been a gun grabber, and I don't see a concealed carry law in Massachusetts, where I understand Romney to have been the Governor. The other two guys? Who knows? They occasionally make the right noises. But, not a one of them is clean on immigration. Taxes? OK, they're OK on taxes, sort of. People were taxed to death before Romney was Governor of MA, and they still are afterwards. The WOT, Iraq? McCain owns Iraq. Rudy owns the WOT. The other two ... no firm commitment yet.

So what the heck are we talking about? If any of the following: either Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, or bless'im, John McCain, puts together the campaign, the money, and the organization to win substantial victories in primary battles, and carries the convention, what are we supposed to do? Fight for your man now, with everything you've got. But after the convention, STFU, back the winner, and turn out the Republicans, that's what. Trade your support for the positions and people you want. It's the American way.

My hat's in the ring for Hunter ... but guess what ... no money ... no organization ... no media presence ... no nuthin' ... but he's one hell of a lot more demonstrably conservative (with the exception of being able to sniff out pork for the folks at home and logrolling with Democrats) than any of the chaps mentioned above.

Our two-party system is a thing painful to behold. But if somebody wants to go the "Pox on both your houses," The Peronista, or the Bull Moose route, disaster lies ahead. This ain't France, with a run-off system. BJC took the presidency with 42% of the vote. His wife, or other equally reprehensible party, is uniquely poised to do the same.

A putative Third Party? Forget it.
We might as well hand the Gore/Obama/Sharpton team (or equivalent) the keys to the White House now and save the trouble and expense of an election.

Here's what I am planning to do: Fight for my man now, with everything I've got. But after the Republican Convention, I am going to STFU, back whoever is the winner, and turn out the Republicans, that's what. Trade my support for the positions and people I want. It's the American way.
