We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.
One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to rule over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.
All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.
FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?
Do you really expect me to do that?
Nothing new. They'll all go through this process, the longer we ignore the real enemy of this country and conservatism, the Democrats will get a pass yet again.
My job isn't to define a candidate and his/her positions. That's what debates and campaigns are for. That's why I am against this cock-eyed notion that GOP candidates should follow the Democrats lead and boycott debates just because some left winged stooge owns a particular network or because that network has a leftward bias. The more this happens, the more the American people will feel cheated, and the uninformed or undecided will remain so.
Despite the fact that his record is a throwback to what America used to be.
Rudy is by no means my first choice. But if he should win the nomination, I’ll vote for him over The Witch or any other RAT...
BigSkyFreeper, I know where you’re coming from, but IMHO, EV is absolutely right to hold Fred’s feet to the fire about what he meant by that.
I’m a HUGE Fred fan, but I wondered about that statement as well when he said it. I give Fred a bit more of the benefit of the doubt than EV does, but I think EV is 100% correct to question this.
I think Fred Thompson will win both the nomination and the general election if he enters.
That is true. We will see what develops.
You're confusing conservative Republicans with Conservatives. The GOP is a centrist pro-government organization which is willing to move further left in order to maintain political power. The 11th commandment applies to those concerned about assembling winning coalitions in order to achieve those ends.
Conservatives such as those at FR aren't necessarily bound by this expedience. They're playing a longer-term game - the soul of the country. If it takes Hillary! winning a term or two in order to re-orient the GOP, then so be it.
Conservatives are playing a game of chicken with GOP leadership. They think they outnumber the potential number of Dem voters that would vote for Rudy, thereby dealing a loss to Repub hopes in 2008.
We shall see - personally, I think the smart money is on Rudy (just as it was on Arnie). The GOP will move to the left and a separate conservative movement will have to be established to continue the fight.
I think it is smart of JR to anticipate this re-alignment and establish FR as the pre-imminent forum for this movement. It's up to him if he feels like allowing continuing discussion of GOP policies.
Ron Paul?
Not when we have Al Qaeda in Iraq to fight.
I wouldn't
Whew!
Thanks : )
Yea, your idea of a fight is backing an unknown milquetoast Congressman. Good luck with that...I actually think you guys enjoy being losers.
“I think Fred Thompson will win both the nomination and the general election if he enters.”
He is a very strong potential candidate. He is a unifier, and heaven knows we need that.
Bump you both!
And I apologize for my own condescension toward you. It was very UNChristian, and that is what I am, first and foremost.
I'm just not sure that pro-life Christian conservatives who enjoy honest debate with good people, some of whom differ with us, belong here any more. I don't think I do.
This is like being on foreign soil, and I don't like it one bit.
But not Free to support a particular candidate.
***Perhaps you’re not understanding that there are still some rudophiles here on FR, but they have not crossed the line of rudeness and outright lies in their quest to “support” a socially liberal candidate on this socially conservative forum.
: )
And the context, according to your own link, is that Fred Thompson convinced the dems to accede to some republican demands to raise hard money limits (and on the Senate floor, Thompson made the point that hard money donations are equivalent to free speech). Again, CFR was a rare lapse of judgement for Thompson, but the story is more ambiguous than you portray.
There's another reason not to support Rudy. Shall we talk about his multiple marriages and multiple adulterous relationships? You can bet the Democrats will!
The Dems. will beat up the Republicans on this. I believe the three leading contenders there are all still on their first spouse. How many nasty divorces have the leading Republican contenders had?
Nominate Rudy and the Republicans lose the 'party of family values' claim. The Dems. will eat them alive on it and the voters will agree.
I am a Christian, myself, and I give you assurance it will not happen again. My best, again.
You mean Thompson is pro-abortion and pro-homosexual?
Gasp! I think I'll vote for an even bigger pro-abortionist and pro-homosexual candidate now < /S >
