Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

Please.

At least be honest and admit that there was venom flying from either side. And it’s more than just “a few” FReepers.

There are many still around these parts that have no concept of civil discourse, and they’ve been that way since long before the whole Rudy issue came along. It’s really easy to hide behind internet anonymity and hurl hateful insults at people. There’s absolutely zero honor in it, but that doesn’t seem to matter. What’s even more interesting (and sad) is that what used to be the “rules of posting” no longer seem to apply to one side - and it minimizes what FR has always stood for, IMO.

My late grandmother always said that there’s never a good reason to be rude, and she was right. She could also tear someone a new one without ever being anything other than polite.

I think that’s a mark of both maturity and intelligence. The “other” method of debate shows a distinct lack of the same two things.

To somehow try and say that it was only the Rudy supporters/departed FReepers were engaging in the ad hominem/personal attacks is dishonest at best, and delusional at worst.

“The problem as I see it is that supporting Rudy does not make one pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control...”

Are you familiar with the term ‘accessory before the fact,’ Rex?

Thanks for the comments, but I really didn't say anything that you all haven't already said at one time or another. The Edmund Burke quote was spot-on too.

It troubles me to hear the argument, "Rudy may be a liberal, but he'll keep us safe from terrorists!" To what end? If he joins with fellow social liberals Reid and Pelosi to advance a social liberal agenda he will have saved America's families from the terrorists' knives only to sacrifice them on the altar of home-grown liberalism.

With Reid and Pelosi in charge of Congress, it would be arguably easier for a Republican president to foist a social liberal agenda on us than it would be for a Democrat president. With Giuliani ramrodding the liberal Democrats' social liberal legislation through, Republican opposition in Congress could be expected to be fractured and dispirited.

A Giuliani-Clinton (or Giuliani-Obama) race would be a lose-lose proposition for America's traditional families.

Gay people, and what they do, don't hurt me. They don't hurt my family. They don't interfere with my rights to life and liberty and to own property. They do not interfere with my right to practice my religion.

They do when they enter the public square, demanding special rights and the opportunity to forcefeed your children the idea that their self-destructive lifestyle is not only normal but a positive good.

Hence the problem.

Nicely put.

There are a number of lifestyles and habits that I find odious. But I expect conservatives, much more than liberals, to know the difference between "Lifestyle X is repellent to me" and "Lifestyle X should be punished by the state's police power".

DC, you are a good guy and amongst the best freepers. Even when I disagree with you.

If Rudy wins as a Republican without conservative help, what does that say?

If conservatives prostitute our values to elect a man who has shown no history of supporting any of them, what does that say?

We haven’t even gotten to his authoritarian streak yet.

Hey IR, how’s things going for you over in loserville (wideasleep)? Must be pretty boring place since you spend more time here than there. Of course, that could change soon.

"Lifestyle X should be punished by the state's police power".

How about: "People who speak out against Lifestyle X or who protest the indoctrination of their children into it shall be punished by the state."

There's social liberalism, Rudy Giuliani style, in a nutshell. There's your coercive big government. There's reality. It's a shame you are so blind you can't see it.
