LANSING, Mich. (AP) More Michigan residents have a favorable opinion of Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Rudolph Giuliani so far than they do of Mitt Romney, according to a poll released Friday by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA.
Fifty-nine percent of the 600 likely voters surveyed statewide said they had a favorable opinion of McCain, while 55 percent said the same of Giuliani and 38 percent said that of Romney.
The poll, conducted Jan. 31 through Feb. 8, had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points and sampled voters of all political stripes, not just Republicans.
Romney's lower numbers might be attributable in part to the fact that he's the least known of the top three GOP contenders, even though his father was governor of Michigan from 1963-69. Nineteen percent didn't recognize his name, while McCain and Giuliani's names were recognized by all but 3 percent.
Twenty-six percent of those polled had an unfavorable opinion of McCain and Giuliani, while 18 percent had an unfavorable opinion of Romney. Twelve percent were undecided about McCain, 16 percent about Giuliani and 32 percent about Romney.
On the Democratic side, 50 percent had a favorable opinion of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, while 45 percent had an unfavorable opinion and 5 percent were undecided.
Eleven percent didn't recognize the name of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. But among those who did, 47 percent had a favorable opinion, 18 percent had an unfavorable opinion and 24 percent were undecided.

Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it.
Rudy Giuliani
That would be nice, but it's likely hers all the way.
"I'd say you're smoking crack."
LOL!
It's a possibility.
If he wears the others down with his common sense approach, in the end, he may surprise a few people.
No conservative is going to support McCain. Even I won't and I'm a Rudy supporter. Keep dreaming pal.
How about Hunter?

..name recognition probably controls these early polls IMHO...
McLame has a near perfect ACU rating and a perfect pro-life score. I'd hate it, but unlike Rudy, I'd hold my nose and vote for John.
I would vote for McCain if absolutely necessary, but I don't think it's going to come to that.
Giuliani met for about an hour Friday night with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who urged Giuliani to help bring about a national debate on the country's dependence on fossil fuels and on health care.Giuliani elaborated on gun control and immigration during a news conference. He said his policies in New York to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime.
"I'm hoping for a McCain-Giuliani ticket."
Maybe we can get a Clinton/McCain, or Clinton/Giuliani Republican ticket. After all, they're all about the same, politically. The big difference of course, is that Clinton doesn't pretend to be a Republican.
After doing some research, Duncan Hunter would be my first choice at this stage of the game, but I don't think he has enough name recognition to get anywhere. So far Giuliani is polling well but I'm hoping that as the race progresses his true liberal RINO colors will come out, and hopefully there are enough social conservative Republicans to take him out before the primary season is over.
That's a powerful chart.
Unwise to say "no" as in none; ditto for "all."
This conservative will support McCain if he's the GOP nominee.
Agreed. I'll vote against Hitlery, even if it's a despicable RINO who's running against her. Please, may it never come to that.
Indeed. It is appearing on blogs all over now.
