McCain, Giuliani Top GOP Favorable Ratings (Michigan Poll)

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — More Michigan residents have a favorable opinion of Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Rudolph Giuliani so far than they do of Mitt Romney, according to a poll released Friday by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA.

Fifty-nine percent of the 600 likely voters surveyed statewide said they had a favorable opinion of McCain, while 55 percent said the same of Giuliani and 38 percent said that of Romney.

The poll, conducted Jan. 31 through Feb. 8, had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points and sampled voters of all political stripes, not just Republicans.

Romney's lower numbers might be attributable in part to the fact that he's the least known of the top three GOP contenders, even though his father was governor of Michigan from 1963-69. Nineteen percent didn't recognize his name, while McCain and Giuliani's names were recognized by all but 3 percent.

Twenty-six percent of those polled had an unfavorable opinion of McCain and Giuliani, while 18 percent had an unfavorable opinion of Romney. Twelve percent were undecided about McCain, 16 percent about Giuliani and 32 percent about Romney.

On the Democratic side, 50 percent had a favorable opinion of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, while 45 percent had an unfavorable opinion and 5 percent were undecided.

Eleven percent didn't recognize the name of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. But among those who did, 47 percent had a favorable opinion, 18 percent had an unfavorable opinion and 24 percent were undecided.

Hillary has the highest unfavorables of any candidate and for those already anointing her that will be a tough obstacle to overcome.

I'm not too sure if she will be the Democrat nominee or not. She's doing well with the Black vote which Obama is Not. That's a big plus for her.

It's all about the money. Let's hope her negatives bankrupt her in the minds of the voters, because the liberal Democratic special interests won't stop feeding her cash. The moon-bats might like Obama, but I think they will swallow Hillary with no problem if it means enacting their socialist agenda.

This poll cannot be dismissed. She is a polarizing b!tch and thus, I rate this poll accurate...lol.

Hitlary will get 88 to 90% of the black vote in the general election. That's a given, considering the voting patterns of black Americans the last fifty years or so.

Hitlary should do even better with the radical jihad vote. She'll get 100% of them...

Someone needs to start a list of states where Rudy is leading in the polls. I'm pretty good with Excel spreadsheets. :)

Yes, that fingernail on a chalk board is polarizing - it is going to be quite interesting to watch the inevitable dem bloodbath. The lib vote will be torn between 'the woman' and 'the minority,' which will simply cancel each other out allowing a dark horse to squeak through.

There was a fight for youth chair yesterday between McCain and Romney yesterday in Michigan. McCain's guy won.

Update III: Katie Packer, Romney’s state director (?), reportedly consoled Tippsley that "sometimes you lose to the devil". That sounds like a proxy fight to me. Also, Young Americans for Freedom protested Romney with signs saying "Rinos for Romney".

I'm hoping for a McCain-Giuliani ticket. A war hero and a 9/11 hero. I think they'd win in a landslide.
