WEIRD BUT TRUE
By LUKAS I. ALPERT, Wire Services
January 5, 2007 -- An 80-year-old Wisconsin man beat back a thief - with a shoehorn.
Police said the would-be burglar kicked in the man's door, demanded cash and threatened to shoot him. But the victim picked up a long shoehorn and began smacking the robber with it, driving him from the home.
Unfortunately, that drove the man to another home, which he robbed. He was later arrested.

Like my daddy used to say, you can have my shoehorn when you can pry it from my cold dead hands...
Or I think that's what he used to say, but that could have been the whiskey talking...

For a 60 year old man with a real sore back, that is one handy tool.

I've got one of those. About 18" long, bamboo barrel, with a claw hand opposite the shoehorn. If you're not careful, you could shoot poke your eye out.

Unfortunately, that drove the man to another home, which he robbed. So, getting the smackdown with a shoehorn "drove" the guy to rob another home?

I don't know what is more embarrassing--that the robber lost a gunfight to a man with a shoehorn, or that the robber lost to
an 80-year-old-man with a shoehorn.
...and to think that was his sole weapon.
If I had been there, I would have been shouting,"Sock him!"
Cheers!
