OUSTED Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein said today he would go to the gallows as a "sacrifice" and called on his former Iraqi subjects to unite against their enemies.
Saddam, in a letter written to the Iraqi people from his cell and confirmed as genuine by his defence lawyer, said: "I sacrifice myself. If God wills it, he will place me among the true men and martyrs."
Yesterday, a panel of appeals court judges confirmed Saddam's conviction for crimes against humanity and ordered that he be hanged within 30 days.
In what might therefore be his final message, Saddam blamed his old enemies the United States and Iran for the bloodshed engulfing Iraq, which is in the grip of a sectarian war between Sunni and Shi'ite factions.
"The enemies of your country, the invaders and the Persians have found your unity a barrier between you and those who are now ruling you. Therefore, they drove their hated wedge among you," he declared.
"O faithful people, I bid you farewell as my soul goes to God the compassionate," he wrote.

Hmmm...
OPINION: Saddam is attempting to stir up a global jihad as he heads to the gallows and from there eternity -- where every day is global warming.
Or...maybe he is just full of himself, as usual.
I don't know about God, but Satan is surely waiting for Saddam!

That ought to make everyone in Iraq laugh! The most united I ever saw the Iraqis was when Uday and Kusey were "displayed".
If they don't get it done, Pelosi may pardon him!
Saddam's god and my God are two separate gods. My God is a God of love and salvation, his god is the prince of darkness. Looks like Saddam will be slapping high fives with the devil soon.
Saddam's execution needs to be televised with a laugh track.
Or? Where is it written that he can't be both?
What I found particularly striking was his rallying cry against the "Persians" as one of his -- and one of the Iraqi people's, since he can't see the difference -- enemies. Well, gosh, I can't imagine why the Persians (Iranians) would have a hate-on for Saddam. He only gassed a few hundred thousand of them.
This world will be a slightly better place by his absence alone, once he departs. I don't know what his funeral plans are, but I can't imagine any place for his remains in a free Iraq. He should be cremated and his ashes scattered off the coast of Kuwait, so beachgoers there can piss on him before wading into the surf.
"...If God wills it, he will place me among the true men and martyrs."
I really wonder if he believes this crap. I wonder if somewhere deep in his mind he may actually acknowledge his crimes. That the payback for years of mass killings, buthering, torturing, raping, etc. is at the end of a rope.
I hope Iraqi leaders finish the job before the year ends. Get it done, truly a fresh start '07.
Why would they allow publishing of a note from Saddam?
Shove his note up his butt when you hang him.
Why allow this monster to send out any messages?
Bloody good question!!!!
1) Kuwaiti beaches were on your list? I mean, I like white sand and clear water, but my favorite scenery isn't in hijab. Just sayin'.
2) If your beach list only includes oceans no one has pissed in, it's gonna be a very short list.
"Hang him high.......and QUICK."
Quick yes but I think the vat of acid or wood chipper is a better method for him.
" . . . I think the vat of acid or wood chipper is a better method for him."
I think it should be the wood chipper, so he can experience the total terror some of his victims suffered.
YOu might be surprised. I know nothing about Kuwaiti beaches, but I have an Iranian born Israeli friend who did a lot of documentary work in the region. He sepnt six months travelling with the Bedouin at one poin. He emphasised their veils and modesty, etc was always paramount ...except whenever they reached the sea. Then everyone stripped off an swam simulataneously (though in separate groups but within sight of each other) and none of them regarded it as sexual in the way they would have an unveiled face half an hour earlier on dry land. Weird...
Au contraire. THe trouble is, the bastard is right. THe 5 years pretending he was a devout Muslim prior to invasion have paid off. If he's died early on, all would have been well. If there had been a long trial process in non-US, non-Iraqi habnds all would have been faintly better than the currewnt situation. The current outcome is like the Germans in the early fifties who remembered that at least Hitler made the trains run on time, strengtherned the economy, etc. Hindsight blurs the negatives...
The Islamonazis we have locked up from the 1993 WTC attacks have sent out messages to their associates through their attorney in an act of illegal smuggling.
Could be the same situation here.
The media plays an odd game... They tell us how the US partnered with Saddam against Iran so that makes the US bad. Then CNN (and other news agencies?) suppressed news of torture and abuse under Saddam to maintain their Baghdad bureau. Then they tell us for a solid month on the front page of the NYT that Abu Ghraib has just opened under new management, that we are no better than Saddam. Then they say how Saddam, for all of his troubles and ills, was able to prevent terrorism in Iraq (are they saying we should adopt his methods of control?).
Face it, the media is a bunch of Saddamites who typically hate America first.
