I kind of like it.
I wish they took it off altogether. Last time I checked "we" includes me and I don't trust in any god. Bring back our old motto and put that on the front.

Why is it important to mention God on our money?
I think it's probably well intended. Notice that under George Washington it has "First President" and the dates. Presumably they will have similar short descriptives for the other presidents, as they are added to the series.
So they wanted to make more room for these short descriptions. Since children are no longer taught anything about the presidents, this could actually be useful.
"Hide" is not an accurate descriptor of the placement of the phrase "in God we trust" on the new $1.00 coins. It actually is a more difficult imprinting application and will never wear off as it is indented deeply into the edge. And it is easy to see and read. Knee jerks are unnecessary here.
Victor David Brenner hid his initials, when the chief engraver found out he had them on the Lincoln cent he ordered them removed from dies.
I hear in France they're considering having "insh'a Allah" on their coins. :^D
Well, they were concerned about another dollar coin being a flop...They sure are doing a fabulous job this time.../sarcasm
(i.e.: Susan B. Anthony dollar coin, Sackajweja "sp? who cares" dollar coin)
Both of those didn't really circulate as much as they hoped for...
But with this unGodly coin, I'm sure they'll do their best to flood the market with them, and try to spin positive things about it...

Sure, I think they should be fired over a coin...Wouldn't that just be a hoot...Here they are worried we'd be storming the Bastille, yet we just vote them all out in '08, and insert non-incumbents...

Get rid of the saying. It was adopted for our money in response to world Communism. We don't need it now.
Who gives a damn? The coins look great. They made a good design decision to make the images large and dramatic, and put the text on the side.
This is done to prepare the sheep for the total removal of the words, in a few years when we will have gotten used to it being missing.
Can't wait until Ted croaks so we can design his ugly mug into the surface of a coin made specifically for throwing into wishing wells.
