WASHINGTON, Oct. 31, 2006 If you're single and in your 20s, the federal government wants you to steer clear of sex.
That's the new guidance for states under the Department of Health and Human Services' $50 million Abstinence Education Program....
"Whatever happened to conservatives that were against big government," Wagoner asks. "If this isn't a waste of taxpayer dollars, what is?"

I guess this is what they mean by Big Government Conservatism. They will wish they had not spent that money when the Social Security trainwreck happens in a few years.

I have to think if you tallied up the endless bills and societal costs for the millions of unplanned children, broken homes, and the rest of the "Great Society" that things we a lot less costly to us back when we had the brass to say, "Shame on you, unwed mother. It's not our job to clean up after you, and don't do it again!"

hmmmm...is this an attempt for the government to legislate morality? since when has this been a governmental concern?
Since the day that the government decided it was a good thing to teach other people's children how to put condoms on bananas and that sodomy is good.
If the gov't refuses to be neutral on the issue (ie, not talk about sex at all), better that they at least take the morally proper position.

I'm only 21, no way I'm waiting another 9 years to bed a woman.
Too bad. If you did (and waited until you were married), you'd probably score yourself a magnificent bride who is free of STDs. Since you have no intention of waiting, you're rollin' the dice, my man. Hope you don't cr@p out.

absolutely, it's immoral to kill and steal, but I didn't need the government to tell me that. The reason I haven't murdered anyone is not because it's illegal, it's because it's wrong. There are certain principles that all men should adhere to. The Ten Commandments is a good place to start. Morality is a set of principles by which one lives their life. Government is an insititution designed (originally) to protect men's rights, not to tell them how to live their lives.

no sex when you're married either.
Not surprising. If one doesn't value sex enough to wait until he is married, one usually ends up in a joyless, sexless marriage--and at least one divorce.

Good old social conservatives believe that using the guns of the government to address social issues. They are no different in practice than the calorie and tobacco and meat nazis of the left.

No matter what side of the issue the government is on, they're wrong because they are performing duties out of the realm of their responsibility.

LOL! The government wasting $50,000,000 of OUR money on this is the ultimate PRO-stupidity position.
You're worried about this? How much money is spent in public schools teaching kids to put condoms on bananas? Or teaching 5 year olds that Gary and Steve can be just as good parents as Joe and Cindy.
The day you bozos start complaining about the above is the day I'll start caring about federal tax dollars going toward abstinence programs. Otherwise....

I suppoose $50,000,000 is no big deal to someone for whom "roughing it" means cutting back one's Hamptons vacation, but it is a big deal to normal people.
