This just crossed my desk...
AUSTIN (AP) -- A family spokeswoman says former Texas Gov. Ann Richards has died at her home.
Rest in Peace Ann Richard!
"Yellow dog" Democrats are non-thinkers; they vote the Democrat ticket no matter who's on it--they would vote for a yellow dog. They brag about it.
Ah, yes, that good old TEXAS gal, conservative hero, vetoing those concealed carry laws.
A feisty, larger than life, character, always said what was on her mind, naughty, and really out there. Exactly and precisely like Michael Moore, and we love him too.
Prayers for the family bump.
I don't agree. I am not a moral relativist. All deaths are not the same. Why should say something positive about someone in death, whom I did not like or respect in life? Ann Richards was very unkind to the Bush family. That's a fact. Why can't I note that at her death?? And PS - I won't shed any tears for Maureen Dowd and Molly Ivins either.
dumb
Plus - no friend to the Bush family. She was trotted out on Larry King many times for the purpose of attacking GWB.
I have a confession to make. I was glad when Yassir Arafat died. And I was not quiet about it here. Apparently that makes me a bad person. :)
?????
One of the best things to happen to America??
I must be dreaming.
I have heard the "poor George" quote from the DNC convention in 88' about a dozen times this morning.
Its getting old!
The MSM just loves to play that. It was a good line but enough already.
R.I.P. Ma Richards.
I didn't know the lady. I came to Texas just as the elections were going on. I do remember she didn't want the Concealed Carry Law. She didn't even want Texans to vote on the issue. Her liberalism cost her the election and gave us George Bush as governor. Bush wouldn't be where he is today if Ann Richards had simply let the people decide on whether they could carry concealed weapons or not.
So in a way, we have Ex Governor Ann Richards to thank for President George Bush.
I wonder what she thought of that? From the comments from the people who met her, she must have laughed at the irony.
RIP Ann Richards
O.K.
Several years ago, Perry swithced to the GOP because he had statewide political ambitions. His politics didn't change; he merely switched parties in order to be electable statewide. Therefore, Perry is a Republican in name only because he is still thinks like a Democrat's Democrat.
Perry came to my hometown several years ago and had his picture taken having coffee with some local Democrats who don't pay their bills and are known as free-loaders and con-artists. He used the picture in a fund-raising brochure that was mailed out all over Texas.
IMO, Perry is still a Democrat who runs as a Republican --in the true meaning of the term.

I would bet a years pay the Bushes were not amused. Neither was I.
> Ann Richards was a conservative democrat <
No disrepect intended either toward you or Mrs. Richards, but when you say was she a "conservative," how on earth can that be true?
EXACTLY!!!! I stand ready to be corrected, so let me see her position on taxes, abortion, guns, and on and on and on and on and on. I lived in TX when this real character, this funny broad, this true original, this witty, real TX lady, was elected, and she reminds me of Michael Moore, B. Mikulsky, and Jesse Jackson -- because she was far more caustic than most elected officials she was dubbed by the press as "down to Earth and plain spoken" -- in other words she could say ANYTHING and get a pass for it.
When does the Wellstoning begin?
I'm sure there are many Texas FReeperettes who would disagree with you on that.
That said, I'm sorry she's passed away, but I didn't like her--she was a foul democrat.
He was one of the more conservative Dems but would never be mistaken for a conservative.
