Some people just can't help but make these really stupid comments.
Thankfully the mods are on top of it.

Once again, wrong.
She had a large spending increase. And, unfortunately, some doctored books. Both of which were used against her in the campaign where she lost to Bush.
Bush started policies that made Texas the number one state for business...and jobs.

If you don't have anything positive to say about the dead, then you should keep your mouth shut. Sometimes silence is the best thing.

"Homemaker"????
She had been working in politics for years before she ran for Gov. Even before she was Commish down in Travis County.
She started working with the Dallas Dems long long ago.

I volunteered in the '94 Republican campaign office.
everyone hated her, and were glad to see her go.
nobody wanted a state income tax.
if she would have shut up, she would have
been re-elected.

Is everyone deserving of respect? I don't think so. Of course not, but this woman was hardly the devil incarnate. She was a Texas politician.

In some ways, Howard Dean is more conservative than Rockefeller republicans.

Loke I posted to Texasforever, I will stay completely away from "Carter's obituary thread," provided I outlive him of course. I can't promise to stay off his funeral threads.

She was also friends with both W and his father as far as I remember hearing. HW knows what she said was politics. To all 3 friendship overrules what you sometimes have to do with politics.

A few Ann Richard quotes.....
- I thought I knew Texas pretty well, but I had no notion of its size until I campaigned it. ..
- I've always said that in politics, your enemies can't hurt you, but your friends will kill you.
- I have always had the feeling I could do anything and my dad told me I could. I was in college before I found out he might be wrong.
- "Let me tell you, sisters, seeing dried egg on a plate in the morning is a lot dirtier than anything I've had to deal with in politics."

She did what she had to do to get elected. For her, it barely worked. Well you are half right. Ann beat Williams the old fashioned Texas way, hair blood and eyeballs on the bar room floor. Clayton was right in there pitching with her. Her big mistake with Bush was she couldn't get him to play that game and he just let her keep getting more outrageous trying to get him to play and the other Texan instinct that admires "gentlemanly" behavior towards women kicked in. She ended that campaign just looking like a bitch. She more or less admitted this after Bush was elected POTUS. She kept telling the Dems not to under estimate him.

If Clayton Williams shut up, Ann would never have been elected in the first place.

So many deleted comments. We shouldn't even have one. :(

Where did you get that from.
The Richards gang and the Bush Family can't stand each other.

I've always said that in politics, your enemies can't hurt you, but your friends will kill you. To whom was she referring, if you know?

All I'll say about Carter when he dies is for him to RIP.
I'm just wondering if he'll have a state funeral.

Believe it or not, there are conservative democrats. In Texas, we fondly call 'em yellowdogs. No, we call conservative Dems "blue dogs."
"Yellow dogs" are the ones who would vote for a yellow dog if it was running on on the Democrat ticket.
Ann Richards was a liberal "yellow dog."
