A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.
Night........................
Good night..Thank you!
I concur! Going to my couch now too... with the TV on (of course).
"We have been very successful in arresting those we were targeting but this is a lengthy operation, and no doubt there will be further developments," Stephenson told reporters outside the headquarters of the Metropolitan police."
Over/under for how soon the NYT can reveal the details of the investigation methods?
I'm sure someone will.
Good night No Pardons.
That is a relief!
Assuming that fathead is done hurling anti-semitic insults at Lieberman, you're probably right.
Good night onyx,Mo1
"Heathrow shut to incoming flights"
"Heathrow Airport has been closed to all incoming flights that are not already in the air, following a police anti-terror operation."
"British Airways said it had cancelled all short-haul UK and European inbound and outbound flights to and from Heathrow until 1500 BST."
"Stringent security measures have been put in place at airports across the UK. "
******
Needless to say, a major disruption.
I salute the British for making some very tough decisions to protect their people this morning. I pray their safety and ours.
Now time for me to lighten up and post some more obnoxious graphics...

Per BBC radio news, arrests were in the south of England, and the Midlands. The English "Security level" system has only been in operation for a few weeks. In theory, "critical" means imminent threat.
Ooooo. I love that name for the peace-weenies: Leftist Romantics!
But I don't understand why you say those sentiments carried no weight with them. They're using them to this day. Any threat is discounted as scare-mongering. Any offensive action is a threat to our constitutional rights. Etc., etc., etc.
They are probably too occupied helping to hide the rest of those Egyptian nationals who are evading authorities.
Someone speculated earlier in the thread that the thing with the Egyptian students could easily be related to this. They suggested they could be decoys to misdirect our security forces.
Check this out.

What was it that I said yesterday?

Just getting up this morning and WOW! And I sleep with the radio on, no wonder I had nightmares...sheeeshh....
Like everyone else, I've been one-step-at-a-time upping my awareness and hatred of Islamists. One of the "stops along the way" was when I was in a mall in the H-E-B (Hurst-Euless-Bedford) area of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and I saw as many, actually probably a few more, burkas as cowboy hats. That was in 2004. I was pretty much freaked out by it, frankly. I'm no longer freaked out, I'm resolved in my hatred and earnest in my spreading of said hatred. I'm not willing to share America with Islam or dhimmis. MORE importantly, I'm not willing to share America with anyone that does not understand that Hatred of Islam is moral duty.
They've made some tough decisions in shutting down some of their major airports (Post #1471). I salute them for taking serious action to protect their citizens.
