Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - July 2006

Posted on 07/01/2006 1:15:53 PM PDT by nwctwx

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Bin Laden Says Will Take Fight to America
(Full Story)

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden said his group reserved the right to fight the United States on its land and warned Washington and the world community against sending forces to Somalia, according to an Internet audio tape.

"We will fight its (U.S.) soldiers on the land of Somalia ... and we reserve the right to punish it on its land and anywhere possible," said the speaker, who sounded like the Saudi-born militant.

"We warn all of the countries in the world not to respond to America by sending international troops to Somalia," he said of the African nation where Islamists' power is rising.

Boasting??....these guys tend to huff and puff a lot. So far their mini rockets have not done much but terrorize folks.

I agree, but I do believe it is possible that they have more of the long range stuff that has been killing people - and it is also likely that they have more powerful missiles than we have seen used to this point.

I think Nasrallah is full of hot air, and I hope he'll soon be full of lead.

I guess it could be along the lines of the threat to use chem weapons by HAMAS several weeks ago. Though, I guess it might be too early to say if they will ever carry out that threat. Hizballah has already proven that it can stand up and fight, if not well, in regular ground warfare.

This appears to me as a terrorist tactic designed to spread fear among the civilian populace of Tel Aviv. We know that the IAF and IDF has greatly reduced Hezbollah's assets and fighters.

A mass firing of missiles into Tel Aviv, on the other hand, would surely result in Syria and possibly Iran as targets. This would , IMHO, light up the Middle East.

Thanks for the ping nwctwx.

Thanks for the ping, WeatherMan.

Just read the thread. I think too many are afraid to take these threats seriously............ I guess comic relief is a comfort to them. Kinda like "whistlin' past the graveyard".

It on, the other shoe has fallen. Be alert, if Hezbollah is going to pull tricks, it is now. Watch Tel Aviv and any chemical use by Hezbollah.

Flights in and out of three Southland airports have been halted because of a power failure affecting radar and the Southern California air traffic control system.

The affected airports are

[Los] Angeles International Airport,
Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and
Ontario International Airport.

"A power outage at the Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center Tuesday cut communications and brought incoming and outgoing flights in Southern California to a standstill, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.

"We lost everything, we lost all power to phone lines, computers, everything," said Allen Kenitzer, a regional spokesman for the FAA.

The outage was reported around 6 p.m., Kenitzer said, and the cause was not known.

Godzilla, I've only heard that in the main-stream news, but there are so many sites out there, it could very well be.

"Jihadi Web Forums Revel in Lebanon Confrontation"
By Chris Heffelfinger

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "As fighting intensifies between Israel and Hezbollah, discussion on the jihadi forums focused on the impact of these actions on the mujahideen in the region, and to the longer term Middle East strategy for the global jihad. A concisely written article, entitled "The Dangers of the Events in Lebanon and Palestine," looked to the strategic calculations in the conflict and also to the best way for the mujahideen to capitalize on inciting further violence between Israel and Iran, creating an opening for the Sunni mujahideen. The article by "Barbarossa" (likely in reference to the 15th century Ottoman admiral and mercenary of the Mediterranean known to Europe as "Red Beard") was posted on the tajdeed.co.uk forum on July 17 at the following URL: https://www.tajdeed.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=47857d1b6a9b1d4bf5c036249e1afb96&threadid=43519 ."

ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "The dangers of the current situation, however, also present opportunities for the global jihad movement, which seeks to put forth a unified doctrine and sees the Shiites as unbelievers and lawful targets in conflict. It goes on to say, "because the annihilation of Hezbollah means opening the battlefield to the return of the Sunni jihad, especially in as much as al-Qaeda will forge a path into Lebanon through the Palestinian camps and Sunni northern Lebanon, which now makes for a fertile ground for their recruitment. This is, by every measure, a disastrous development for Israel.""

ARTICLE SNIPPET #3: "The article was met with praise on the forum, with statements like, "By God, I hope al-Qaeda is able to benefit from these circumstances…" Additionally, while this posting represents the more insightful and adept of the strategic analysis on the jihadi forums, there is a proliferation of material available being avidly debated. Even without a central body creating jihadi strategy, individual contributors such as Barbarossa are of great value to the jihadi movement. Indeed, such insight is of benefit to all parties following the implications of the widening conflict in Lebanon and Israel. If his analysis holds true, the Salafi-Jihadist movement, of which al-Qaeda is a part, may well escalate conflict between Israel and Iran to draw the region into war in an attempt to later strike both states in a time of weakness."

Hizballah should be taken seriously until fully destroyed at this point.

Just saw this on KCAL9. LAX has been shut down since 5:30 p.m., no flights in or out. This inevitably affects airports/flights all over the country and internationally.

Wondering why the back-up generator has not kicked in. The cause is based in Palmdale (high desert), where a power outage affected a major regional air traffic control center.

We had area-wide power outages in the west L.A. area Sunday and Monday, not far from LAX.

Few details on this breaking story thus far.

Yep, and if the ground offensive has kicked off - then stick a fork in them, Hizbollah's done. Just crossing my fingers that they don't have a chemical option up their sleve.
