Catholic actor Mel Gibson has slammed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie for attacking the beliefs that he holds sacred, World Entertainment Network reported.

Gibson says, "What worries me is that people will take this as fact.

"I'm not angry, per se, that it refutes everything I hold sacred, the foundations of my beliefs. The Da Vinci Code is an admitted work of fiction but it cleverly weaves fact into maverick theories in a way that will appear plausible to some."

The angry star was actually the first choice of Dr. Robert Lomas (the intellectual who inspired the Robert Langdon character) to play him. Tom Hanks plays Langdon in the film

Funny how criticizing The last Temptation of Christ was perfectly the Right thing to do, but say just one bad thing about the Da Cinci Code, and tons of "It just fiction so get over it" people come out and call you overly intolerant.

What about a mystery that postulates that Lincoln was assassinated by Booth after Booth got wind that Lincoln was about to use Sherman's army to drive Congress out of town and to set himself up as emperor? More to the point wehat about a mystery that involves the asssination of a Muslim scholar who has evidence that the Koran was a fabrication of the Arab generals who boiled out of the desert in 640 and fell on the Greeks and the Persians, that Mohammed never really existed or was the addled figurehead of these warriors. Yep, I can see boths being made into major motion pictures.

I can't find it now, but there was an article last week saying how many beleived that what was in the movie was true. In the US it was a fairly large number, and I believe in the UK it was 2 out of 3. That's alot of people decieved.
But of course, the overriding right to be entertained trumps everything! ;)

Indeed. We laugh at stupid peasants in backward societies who believe in superstitions and wild conspiracy theories. Books have been written about that and sold as non-fiction, even if they were fiction (Kosinski's Painted Bird, for example.)

But the stupid, conspiracy and superstition believing peasants are all around us in a modern society, educated urbanized people all of them. Educated? The promotion and defense of this illiterate piece crap on this forum has been shameful!
