Monday, May 22, 2006 12:44 a.m. EDT Mel Gibson Slams 'Da Vinci Code'
Catholic actor Mel Gibson has slammed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie for attacking the beliefs that he holds sacred, World Entertainment Network reported.
"The Passion of the Christ" star has been outraged about the thriller's controversial plot concerning Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. [Editor's Note: Get NewsMax's special report "The Da Vinci Con" FREE with Ann Coulter's book, "Godless" CLICK HERE NOW!]
Gibson says, "What worries me is that people will take this as fact.
"I'm not angry, per se, that it refutes everything I hold sacred, the foundations of my beliefs. The Da Vinci Code is an admitted work of fiction but it cleverly weaves fact into maverick theories in a way that will appear plausible to some."
The angry star was actually the first choice of Dr. Robert Lomas (the intellectual who inspired the Robert Langdon character) to play him. Tom Hanks plays Langdon in the film

I don't hate it at all. Probably won't see it, but sure won't condemn it.

"I know this is a conservative forum and the folks here hate the Da Vinci Code ...... but the movie just made over $225 billion worldwide in its first weekend........a record." Umm, not really lol
From boxofficemojo.com:
"On the global front, The Da Vinci Code played nearly everywhere and claimed the highest-grossing foreign start in history, raking in $147 million since Wednesday to narrowly surpass Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith's $145.5 million from the same period last year."
An impressive gross, to be sure, but 225 billion?

No... million, not billion.

Two thoughts come quickly to mind.
1. If this book/movie rocks our faith then your faith wasn't very strong to begin with.
2. Even if everything in the movie were true would it really change anything?

I think you mean "million", not "billion." But it doesn't change the fact that it's long and boring.

Did Mel Gibson slander real people in his movies?
Yes, next question?
Im not overly bothered about him toying with the truth but if anyone has a right to bleat about someone else doing it its not Mel Gibson.
The da Vinci code is fiction, it doesnt take much looking around to find out its fiction, and really the less fuss that was kicked up about it the less people would flock to see it.

Didnt have much problem taking liberties with the truth in Braveheart or The Patriot did you? Braveheart, yes.. But the Patriot? That was a work of fiction while playing a fictional character in a historically correct timeline of events.

Wonder how many won't know that?Dan Brown has spun his book as "fiction based on fact" to appeal to people who have no knowledge of history and who suspect that the world is run by secret societies. He's pandered to a segment of people who are willing to believe the worst about religious institutions, and about God Himself, which, sadly, is a very large number of people in our society.

Angels and Demons was a better book than the Da Vinci code. As a Catholic, I should be offended, but Im not. These are stories and Brown is an excellent writer. I lived in Roma for three years and enjoyed the historical tidbits in Angels and Demons. I read about them and then looked them up for verification. Roma has the most fascinating history of any city in the world, IMHO. Keep it in context, folks, its fiction! Fiction that is being used by the "enemies of Christianity" to stir the pot. We have seen it many times before. Great stories, but they are nothing other than entertainment.
Donning asbestos now..
