PRINCETON, NJ -- President George W. Bush's job approval rating has reached yet another new low for his administration, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll. The poll, conducted May 5-7, 2006, finds that 31% of Americans approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president while 65% disapprove. Bush's approval rating is down three percentage points from last weekend, which is not a statistically significant drop, but has shown a six point decline from early April and a 12 point decline since the start of the year. The decline in Bush's approval rating has accelerated in the past month or so. His ratings were stable in the low 40% range in January and early February, then declined slightly into the mid- to upper-30% range through the beginning of April. Since April, Bush's ratings have fallen six points.

All he has to do to boost this number is say "We are going to build a high tech wall along our entire southern border."
Bush hasnt raised taxes in any way .
Bush has stayed the course and held to his promise not to back down.
Bush pushed for and got the late term abortion ban passed.
Bush hass appointed 2 Conservatives and numerous lower court Conservatives.
These are all honored accomplishments that I EXPECT from all conservatives.... These require constant vigilance, which I respect.
The fact remains that these are NOT todays immediate issues.....
I don't agree with 100% of my own positions, half the time :-)
We'll never get what we want entirely in one man. Not ever. But the president has kept the nation safe, advanced conservative judges, tried to reform SS, and pushed for an end to partial abortion, among a host of other reforms.
He is also the first president in my lifetime (and I'm not a spring chicken) to at least try and address the immigration issue.
What we have on FR is a lot of democrats who have come here to stir up dissent. The book Hillary's Secret War, for which Jim Robinson wrote the foreward and FR is mentioned prominently, details how the leftists try to infiltrate sites like this one and cause conservatives to question Republican candidates.
Then of course, we have the third party lovers who don't seem to accept that their parties have never won more than 2-3% of any election.
The Republicans in Congress have behaved outrageously at times and I'm disgusted with a lot of them, but they're the best chance we have to change the course of slowly inching forward socialism in this country. For their votes on judicial nominees alone, I'll keep voting the straight Republican ticket.
It's amazing to watch the non-stop bush bashing in the media and hear them talk about his terrible approval numbers. Its also amazing to watch him piss off his base, accept blame for things he shouldn't, and generally fiddle around doing nothing while the country dealing with high gas prices, illegals, etc. The Republicans seem to completely lack an offense and a defense. Pathetic.
You are young. I remember the 1986 Amnesty Plan that would fix Illegal Immigration. I'm still waiting.
Well, these are good points and perhaps true. Yet, I am continually searching for answers to questions or accusations about this President's job performance. I WANT to support him, and I do, yet I am frustrated. Every day it seems to get worse.
The DBM airing good news for Pres. Bush? They'll find something negative to say, I'm sure.
The truth of the matter is it's Iraq. The trend in casualties since October of last year is down, but last month saw a jog in that trend that lessened its sharpness.
There is a new Iraqi government to be installed this week. This is 100X more important than a border situation that has not changed for 30 years. If the Democrats moved even a little bit rightward these approval numbers would matter, but they have not and come November people will once again recognize that keeping them out is the only principled choice.
Not only is Illegal Immigration not fixed for the last 20 years, but this headline caught my eye this morning. Why are we telling Mexico where the Minutemen will be? Is this part of the President's plan?
"U.S. border volunteers monitored - Mexico to be notified of Minuteman patrols"
Reagan was not a second term President with a majority in both houses of Congress. Had he been, I believe he would have torn down some bureaucratic walls and his conservative credentials and his legacy would have been even greater.
So typical.....the old ostrich head in the sand trick...
It wont' work. The "downward trend" once begun, will not magically make a turn up. Respect once lost is extremely hard to recover....
Republicans....are losing it...simply because they are ignoring the base...even here in Texas.
I agree 100% with your assessment. Rasmussen is a solid pollster with as good a track record as anyone out there.
I've been disappointed with some things the president has done, but that would be true of any Republican president. I'll never agree fully with any one person. It just hasn't happened yet and never will.
And, if we aren't safe nationally, all the domestic programs or vetoes in the world aren't worth spit. For the president's strength keeping the country safe and social conservatism alone, to change the tide of the culture in this country at least somewhat, he will have my support.
There isn't anyone else on the national scene who could do a better job, in my view. What really disappoints me is that Republicans in Congress have run away from the president and haven't given him any support whatsoever. He got a bunch of them elected and re-elected in the '04 election and they have run away from him and his agenda and that's simply outrageous.
Reagan didn't have to sign that first ever gay rights legislation while governor of California. He could have vetoed it. And politics had nothing to do with pushing the Brady handgun bill after he left office. And a lot of Americans, including Democrats (who weren't so crazy at that time) wouldn't have minded a more aggressive pushing to punish those responsible for the bombing of our military's barracks.
At 41%, President Bush only needs a few well timed actions to bump back over 50.
I imagine that's what the wizard Rove is working as we type! ;)
