PRINCETON, NJ -- President George W. Bush's job approval rating has reached yet another new low for his administration, according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll. The poll, conducted May 5-7, 2006, finds that 31% of Americans approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president while 65% disapprove. Bush's approval rating is down three percentage points from last weekend, which is not a statistically significant drop, but has shown a six point decline from early April and a 12 point decline since the start of the year. The decline in Bush's approval rating has accelerated in the past month or so. His ratings were stable in the low 40% range in January and early February, then declined slightly into the mid- to upper-30% range through the beginning of April. Since April, Bush's ratings have fallen six points.

Can't be due to Open borders naw, the GOP has a plan- tell us what is important and do not listen to the base.

I like to see a graph of his job approval rating vs. when he created a new drug entitlement, nominated Harriot Myers, and demanded a path to citizenship for illegals aliens (among other things).

This is one of the reasons why his numbers are so low:

Conservative Disaffection

That AP-Ipsos poll wasn’t the only one showing warning signs about conservative discontent. USA Today/Gallup:

Bush’s fall is being fueled by erosion among support from conservatives and Republicans. In the poll, 52% of conservatives and 68% of Republicans approved of the job he is doing. Both are record lows among those groups.
(Hat tip: NRO)

Perhaps El Presidente will try to fix the problem by pushing even harder for the McKennedy amnesty. After all, everyone knows that the conservative base loves amnesty for illegal aliens!

Conservatives are driving these poll numbers...which means that it isnt as bad as it looks.

I can sit around and say ll day long that I dont approve of verious things the Bush administration has done...indeed I think his job domestically has been lousy. That doesnt change the fact that I am glad he is president over John Kerry and if the election were held today I would still vote for him.

These approval numbers do not translate into support for democrats..no matter how much the MSM wants people to think they do.

Stilted questions, stilted answers, stilted survey populations are at least partly to blame. I got a call from an automated pollster last night, listened to the first question and possible answers then hung up because I couldn't shoehorn my opinion into one of the choices, and "other" was not offered.

"Conservative Disaffection "
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>................
Bush told us he was a compassionate conservative-he wanted guest workers-expanded DEPT ED, but I like many thought he would balance out these views and at least secure the border. And maybe a veto or two to reduce big spending in congress..he said he was for spending cuts but never did anything about it..in some ways I have grown to distrust him- His die-hard supporters here on FR will tell us he was honest about his policy but I feel mislead.

It's the perception of no action on any issue that matters.

Complete stagnation or worse.....a catatonic administration.

Can't coast and catch fish for 30 months.

I don't think Harriet Miers had any real effect, not over the long term. The drug plan may have. It's the citizenship for illegals that's killing him.

The president has told us time after time that he does not govern by polls. Isn't it time we started believing him?

all true but none the less it seems his support with conservatives is at a low, and going lower as he stubbornly refuses to listen to his base.

In comparison, the senate is lower that this, and their job performance approval is worse...

If you were battered day in and day out, how would your numbers be?

What the libs have done is made this their agenda...bash bush...bash bush...nothing else is getting done, but bashing bush...

If the libs take over the house or senate, you can bet the only thing in the papers is going to be: bashing bush; investigating bush, until we are so sick of it....

So my solution to the problem is this:

Start bashing the libs....every time you see something, write a letter to the editor bashing the libs, play their game.....once a few people see this working, they will pick up on it and do the same thing...

OK with not governing by polls-but what about feed back from your base via the GOP and senate and house members??
IS the President a KING?? Does our system insulate him from the real concerns of the citizens?

Go back and read the threads regarding Miers (thanks for the proper spelling).

In fact, a significant number of Democrats that voted for Bush (I know a few) did so because of the abortion issue and supreme court appointments. They felt betrayed as many of us did.

Miers was the beginning of the base giving up on Bush. I would bet (not a lot...) that was when the downward trend began.

Compare that to Reagan's numbers.. and Reagan had no active war to rally support behind. Just he was actively trying to cut down the federal bureuacracy.

I keep hearing that Republicans have to compromise and be moderately socialist to stay in power. Yet when they do this, the leftwing people still hate Republicans just as much and vote Democrat.. And the small government types like me lose our enthusiam.

Credit Texasforever:

Lets talk about Reagan vs. Bush. The easiest way is to name those things that Reagan accomplished that Bush hasn’t.
Reagan signed the first handgun control bill in California history; Bush has signed no anti-gun laws in his political career.

Reagan signed the first Gay-rights legislation in California; Bush has never signed any gay rights legislation.

Reagan broke his promise never to raise taxes with his “revenue enhancement” programs along with the largest FICA increase in history. Bush hasn’t raised taxes in any way .

Reagan cut and run in Lebanon after the first taking of casualties. Bush has stayed the course and held to his promise not to back down.

Reagan appointed 3 liberals and one conservative to the Supreme Court. Bush hass appointed 2 Conservatives and numerous lower court Conservatives.

Reagan talked a good game on abortion but Bush pushed for and got the late term abortion ban passed.

Reagan left office and immediately endorsed the Brady Bill in his first public appearance as an ex-president.

The myth of Reagan is exactly that. A myth. He was a great president because he could say the right things at the right time to make the country feel better. It is beyond dispute that Reagan beats Bush hands down when it comes to communication BUT Bush beats Reagan in every conservative category anyone cares to offer.

And, I will add, Reagan gave us an amnesty plan.

And despite all the above, Reagan is considered one of the country's greatest presidents.

Even Rush was saying yesterday that he couldn't understand the Administration's recent actions/inactions/policies.

When the bots are questioning what's going on in the WH, the WH is in deep political trouble.

..The president has told us time after time that he does not govern by polls...

That's for sure, but I'm wondering just who or what it is that forces him to take such stupid positions. After he won reelection and arrogantly boasted of spending his political capital he started going down hill real fast. Who would have thought that this meant taking a dive leftward and further implementing big socialist government?
