Casey is doing a great job, talking about the positives.

I saw General Casey on two of the shows, and I thought he was lousy... slow, halting, unsure of himself and his answers. He's no General Abizaid with the news media.

The military needs to publicly raise Hell with the MSM in front of the American people -- for about the next six months on a sustained basis.

I wrote to my Reps over their stunt of hijacking the appropriations bill for the troops on the Dubai Deal.

I GOT A RESPONSE!

First....MY LETTER:

I have NEVER in my life been so FURIOUS over the behavior from my elected officials.

Capitol Hill DEMANDED a 45 day review- CLAIMING they wanted to take a step back, slow down, and review the facts of the deal. (Dubai Deal)

When they were granted this compromise- you didn't DO ANY OF IT and SLAMMED the door in SIX DAYS!

SIX DAYS!

Now we learn that this was all about companies lobbying Schumer?

You HIJACKED the money for our TROOPS in the scandal no less. My brother is ONE OF THESE BRAVE MEN! He has served in our forces since he graduated high school in 1987. He is now an officer- a FULL MAJOR in the Air Force... a REAL HERO! He has been in IRAQ for TWO TOURS.


I have many times BRAGGED about YOU being my Representative. Your actions have not shown statesman-like behavior.

If my utility company gave me 45 days to pay a bill and then turned off my utilities in 6 days I would be FURIOUS!

There was NO REASON to do this... NONE!

You had 45 days to allow us to get informed, and then voice our thoughts.

Instead you reacted to instant flash polls etc.. instead of looking at the facts and allowing us to learn them before we could make an informed choice- and THEN voice it to you!

I didn't bother calling or writing earlier- because I thought I had 45 days to do so...

Thank you for contacting me regarding United States
seaport operations. I appreciate hearing from you.

As you are aware, the United Arab Emirates-owned
company, Dubai Ports World (DPW), has withdrawn its bid to take
over operations at six United States seaports and will sell its share
of the acquisition of P & O Ports North America to an American
owner.

In the days shortly after DPW made its announcement, I
traveled with fellow members of the Georgia Congressional
delegation to Dubai and met with government officials as well as
representatives from DPW. I am pleased with the positive
discussions we had and believe the Prime Minister showed
tremendous leadership in urging DPW to transfer operation of the
ports to a United States-owned entity.

The U.S. has a valuable relationship with the United Arab
Emirates and I feel it is critically important that we continue our
partnership and work side by side in fighting terrorism and
cooperating on future trade agreements. We now have the
opportunity to move forward in our relationship and continue to
work together as partners on these priorities.

...I'm interested to hear of any personal perception of fall out from the ports deal. We're beginning to get dribs and drabs, such as the decision to move reserves out of dollars, but are ex-pats seeing any real impact?

Everything in the Middle East moves at tortoise speed; the actual impact [Metric: contracts won, contracts lost] will not be clear for some time.

Personally, although currently based in Dubai, my business focus is in another Gulf country; my insight is derived from contacts with ex-pats doing work locally in UAE/Dubai.

I remain optimistic about my business field and the opportunities in the region.

Those before and after pictures are of Sheikh Zayed Road (really a 10-lane highway). This is the first new town built outside the original old city (Burj Dubai). Mostly apartments, hotels and shopping on parallel access roads.

Further out in the distance, maybe 10 kilometers, is another new city---the Marina district where all the specialty areas are: Media City, Internet City, Knowledge Village, etc. I counted 50+ new high-rises going up in the Marina area. Cranes are everywhere. This area is also the location for most of the ex-pat residential housing--now available for purchase (with some fine print in the law). These areas include The Lakes, The Greens, The Springs and the new man-made island towns like The Palm in Jumeira.
