I was sitting here tonight listening to Mozart's Requiem and I got to thinking: what do I consider to be the best work of music ever? For my part, Mozart's work really does the trick for me when I need to be re-energized. Therefore, I believe that his Requiem is the greatest work of all time. There just isn't another work that is as powerful and passionate. When the chorus sings the final "Amen" at the end of "Lacrimosa" I get the feeling that he knew it was the last thing he would ever write. It gives me chills at times.
Other favorites are:
Handel's Messiah
The 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky
Normally I like Leo Kottke , and Adrian Legg style guitar yet Andrés Segovia tunes are favorites. Joe Walsh's life's been good, Stephan Stills ...etc . I play a Ovation Ultra and a Alvarez.......poorly IMO but it's a valid effort !
How about Sixty Minute Man by Billy Ward & The Dominos?
Holy cow, I left out all the Brahms!
Bach: St. Matthew Passion
I've always been a HUGE fan of Yes. My favorite Yes Albums were (believe it or not) Tormato, Yessongs, Close to the Edge and even Drama.
Zimmer is good. John Williams is great, imho.
The Aggie War Hymn
Oh, yeah. That one's better with headphones. They never did anything better than that.
Patsy Cline - "Crazy"
Tough one, but my choice has to be Mahler 9.
Followed by, in no particular order:
Beethoven 9
Tchaikovsky 6
Bach's Goldberg Variations
Stravinsky's Rite of Spring
"Blame it in the bossa nova, the dance of love!"
No problem, and let me tell you, it was hard to pick which song to offer. :) "I'm Ronery" came in close second.
Two thumbs up for Dave Brubeck! Take Five just REEKS of jazz cool!
Yes 90125 is one of the best albums for selling a stereo. It could make any stereo sound good :~D
Antonio Vivaldi - The Four Seasons
Forgot one: "Rock Me Right" by Susan Tedeschi
It came out when I was in high school (late 70's)and evokes the best memories. They are different versions of the same great work.
Mason Williams "Classical Gas".
The Third Brandenburg Concerto, J.S. Bach, but I've already requested that "Deacon Blues" be played at my funeral, complete with sax solo.
