Good morning, all.

Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."

It's all over except the final vote tally.

Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?

You agree with WHAT? I'm not sure which post of mine you're agreeing with, but I'm pretty sure I never said the executive branch has too much power over the judicial.

You must have me confused with someone else. Or you're not reading my posts as I intended.

I hate their default thread presentation, but luckily they have a "FReeper-friendly format", I mean printer-friendly format.

Thanks. I had my night planned around that time and then hubby came home home with an earlier time. He was probably thinking about the time the MSM would give the DEMS to bloviate before the speech.

Sadly, I have been rethinking whether Chaffee will lose to Laffey. While I would love to make him pay for voting the wrong way, I am less confident that the conservatives will turn him out now that Alito is appointed.

But at least the penniless nephew of the Forbes empire who by the way also served in Vietnam and who later became a gigolo in the Senate can ask the telling question "What about me?"

Really?

I've read that less than a third-if that-Republicans in that state support him.

In fact, it says on Laffey's website that more Republicans support Jake Reed, which doesn't surprise me in the least.

How can he possibly win a GOP primary against a popular, conservative Republican mayor?

I absolutely want Laffey to win.

But IIRC not only Republicans can participate in the primary. If you are a registered voter but not identified as any party, you can select the primary in which you vote and then unenroll again after you've cast your primary vote.

That's insane!

:(

I still can't envision a sampling from any group supporting this nitwit Chaffee after having voted against Alito.

I mean, think of all the Italo-Americans in that state!

I never understood why so many Italians voted for Democrats like Sal Albanese and Frank Barbaro, but I can't see them voting for a bleeding-heart liberal, aloof, half-witted WASP who despises them.

Maybe I'm investing too much hope in Rhode Islanders.

I am hoping for the best. But I am thinking that if Chaffee wanted to keep his seat, that he would have done some serious polling before he did announce his vote.

It's an Italian state, Laffey is popular, but who knows what turnout in the primaries will be like?

Unenrolled is nearly as big a percentage as R.

I also know some self described conservative Catholics who adore Roe v. Wade, which is flabbergasting.

Too frustrating. Let's hope for the best.

Was Senator Sessions a judge once who got blackballed for a promotion when the Democrats were in charge of the Senate? I remember him during the hearings on Janice Rogers Brown-- a real polite gentleman who brings out the best in people.
