Welcome to white bread Simi Valley, CA, a Republican stronghold in California. Sunday I went to Vons Pavillion to pick up some groceries. In the Queue behind me was a gigantic, the biggest, the blackest green beret I have ever seen, and I'm a colonel's daughter. He was holding his breakfast, oatmeal, etc. THis is how it went:
Me: "you just get back?"
Soldier: "yes maam."
me: "You go ahead of me, I have a lot."
Soldier: "that's not necessary, maam."
me: "you go ahead, please?"
The guy in front of me: "Go ahead of me, too. I have to use a credit card."
Soldier: "Thanks."
*cashier rings up his breakfast*
Another man runs up and pushes the soldier's hand away from the scanner and runs his own debit card through the machine.
The other man to the cashier: "are we good?"
Cashier: "we're good"
Soldier: "Thank you."
*shakes other guy's hand and leaves*
*Several people offer to help pay the soldier's tab. All refused.
In Kullifornia. I saw it with my own eyes. You read about it, but how many times can you say you actually saw it. Came home in tears.
Thanks for posting it.
It's nice to read a story like this every once in a while.

Heartwarming story people on your ping list might enjoy.
I'm hopeful. I've heard many stories like this. They deserve it, and we owe it to them.
Great story, thanks for sharing.
Well now, you are in Reagan Country. Great story, wonderfully told. Thank you for telling us.
What an AWESOME story!!!!!!!!!!!
I work in a grocery store and this happened to me. The man was insistent on paying for the young Marines' lunches even though they politely refused.
Ping
Heartening to hear.
Thanks!
Thanks. I pinged SandRat. I'm still trying to figure my ping list out. I didn't make it. It was past to me. Apparently, I'm not pinging the right stories. Don't know.

United we stand!
I grew up just over the hill, in Chatsworth, in the 60's/70's and part of the 80's.
Good to hear that there are still folks there that have the values and gratitude towards are servicemen, instilled in them, as we were back in the day.
Very kewl!!
WOW!! Thanks for posting!
Very cool! I wonder if he knows a good buddy of mine, the shortest whitest Green Beret in 1st SFG 8>)
Not too long ago I was in my Pain Management Doctor's Office in Lawton (home of Ft. Sill) and a young man in military uniform came in. He had no injuries that could be seen (but then I don't either) by the naked eye.
I would have loved to have shown my appreciation but had no clue how to do so. More than likely insurance was picking up the tab since the receptionist didn't have him fill out any paperwork like they normally do for first time patients.
Normally with pain management patients they're seeing the Doctor for a longer term timeframe than if they were in a surgeon's or orthopoedic or other similar specialty office.
I did smile and received a big smile back but about the time he sat down, the nurse called me back so I couldn't engage him in small talk.
I still would have liked to have done something special for him.
Anyone have any suggestions since it's normally in the different specialists offices I see them. I have picked up the tab on the rare occasion we go out to eat and military is present while we're in Lawton visiting all of my different doctors.
Sorry about any errors, my computer is acting up. I hope it can last long enough for my new one to be delivered and set up.
What a GREAT story!! Thank you Hi Heels!!
