Today President Bush participated in a roundtable discussion on the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit program at Greenspring Village Retirement Community in Springfield, Virginia.
This afternoon he met with Republican leaders in the Roosevelt Room at the White House to discuss strategy in the War on Terror.
Tonight at 10:00, MSNBC will broadcast the complete hour long interview of Brian Williams with President Bush (and Mike recommends it, so it's got to be good!)
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!

Was anyone else watching Cspan's coverage of the House special order speeches? Rep. Steve King was talking and he was saying that you can't support the troops and not support the mission. And he had quotes from Kennedy and Kerry about the war and was saying that they're encouraging the terrorists. I've seen him speak on the subject before and he always does a great job of presenting the facts.

That is sad. I think though sometimes even if you do not realise it you make your own traditions. Like my family's watching the Christmas midnight service on TV and trying to get the meal served just after the Queen's Speech and after dinner watching the program on TV that reunites families and gives ill children presents or trips for Christmas.
I can remember as a child one of my best memories was watching Rolf Harris going round a children's hospital entertaining the ill children, singing carols and drawing for them.
Some of these TV programs are the best they show all year and have definitely because part of my tradition or fond memories of Christmas.

Good Morning everybody!!!!!
I posted this late on Monday's thread (post #184). But I don't think many saw it so I'm posting it again, this time in the AM.
Good afternoon everybody!
"I wrote the following on the Canteen and FR's Finest threads yesterday, I meant to post it here once this thread came up last night.
But here it is.
"This happened to me yesterday morning."
"Good Morning everybody!
This is not something I like to rant about on a thread dedicated to the troops, especially the ones who are daily placing thier lives at risk for our freedoms and our way of life.
They don't deserve the outrage of seeing our Flag being treatede as GARBAGE!
I'll tell you what I mean. This morning I was on my way to work when I saw in a "torpedo" trash can placed near the entrance to the building I live in, AN AMERICAN FLAG!!!!!!
needless to say I was OUTRAGED at this.
If it were ragged and torn all to pieces (which there's a proper way to dispose of a worn out flag). I would kind of understand.
But this flag was like new!
I don't know nor do I care why it was treated as trash, but I "rescued" it and put it in a planted tree in the lobby of my building and am praying it will still be there when I get back home from work so I can take it upo to my apartment and treat it with the respect it deserves.
After all, there are and have been men and women who have sacrificed all for the country it represents. As well as the ones who are now in Iraq and Afghanistan risking thier lives. I think trashing the flag is the same as trashing the United States.
This is an insult and very offensive to me and I'm sure to our troops and all who hold this country and it's flag dear."
Not exactly what belongs on a thread dedicated to President Bush, but I think this outrageous treatment of OLD GLORY would be an insult to him as well.

I know that it may not be correct but one explanation could be that it was bought for a special event and after the event it was "tidied up".
I know a lady at work who I am sure if her husband or children had a Union Flag or St George's flag for a sporting or other event once that was over she would dispose of it. She is very house proud and would consider something like this as clutter; great at the time and occasion but does not have a place day to day in the house.
She would not see it as disrespect and is patriotic in fact she comes from a military family and was was born in Singapore where her father was stationed at the time. He in fact though not in the services is still connected with them working as part of military security.
She hardly ever keeps anything, she would not see it as disrespect but just keeping her house decor the way she wants it.

There's a proper way of disposing unwhanted flags, give it to someone who wants it or sell it in a yard sale.
if it's too far gone for that take it to your local VFW or Boy Scout troop to have it respectfully burned.

I'm coming down on the "they will both be judged as great Presidents, but President Bush will be the greater" side of this discussion.
Both equal in the conservative/not conservative area because REALITY forces one from a completely satisfying conservative agenda.
But President Bush has had far more to deal with, and has done so with absolutely amazing skill, he is a superior Commander in Chief (which puts him WAY over the top, IMHO), and will end up having a far more successful second term.
Part of that is that he is cowed by nothing and no one. He is plowing through in spite of the attempts to create scandals by the left, and is not veering off course. The great Ronald Reagan........whom I loved........was sidetracked by Iran Contra, and never got back on course. W's feistiness is going to give him a better second term no matter what the Dems do.

You are of course quite correct but many people do not see it that way or even know that. In their mind it has served its use so get rid not everyone is as knowledgeable or sensitive as you are about these things.
