Democrats Fear Backlash at Polls for Antiwar Remarks
The Washington Post ^ | December 7, 2005 | Jim VandeHei and Shalaigh Murray

Posted on 12/07/2005 6:39:28 AM PST by katieanna

Strong antiwar comments in recent days by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean have opened anew a party rift over Iraq, with some lawmakers warning that the leaders' rhetorical blasts could harm efforts to win control of Congress next year. Several Democrats joined President Bush yesterday in rebuking Dean's declaration to a San Antonio radio station Monday that "the idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong." The critics said that comment could reinforce popular perceptions that the party is weak on military matters and divert attention from the president's growing political problems on the war and other issues. "Dean's take on Iraq makes even less sense than the scream in Iowa: Both are uninformed and unhelpful," said Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.), recalling Dean's famous election-night roar after stumbling in Iowa during his 2004 presidential bid.

Bush needs to make a major prime time speech
with the likes of the State of the Union...maybe even address the congress. And call them on it.

"If anyone in this room demands that US troops exit Iraq immediatley...please stand up now"
Lets see what happens there.

I think that's BS. The Dims have been taking turns daily to see who the biggest anti-everything douchebag in their party is. If they cared, they would shut up. Since they never shut up, they don't care. Anyway at election time it's all about the "undecidids" who may or may not remember what they had for breakfast. I expect the Dims BS parade to continue.

Another hit on the US would not bolster the Democrats. It would just remind the people of what is at stake and what we must do to win.

"Notice that the dems are not concerned about the fact that this emboldens the terrorists and undermines our military forces, only that it might damage popular perceptions of the democrat party."

Which is why I question Lieberman's recent comments. I think he was asked by party leadership to try to balance the Dean radicalism for purely political reasons. It's the same game being played by Bill and Hill, who are trying to maintain their leftist base while grabbing centrists.

Let me ask you this:

Is is a better thing see the left implode through a chain of miscalculation and rage and be rendered ineffectual for decades, or is it better to help them shape-up and mend their mistakes for perceived short-term gains and then contend with a stronger more aggressive position later on?

I vote for for total RAT destruction in the most effective manner possible.

Dean is a willing patsy and Kerry is simply clueless.

But you're looking at (I think) from a purely political perspective, and not necessarily contemplating the damage to military morale. At some point I think a line needs to be drawn.

Democrats hate the military....they hate America...they hate the truth....but they love power..and since they can't win it anymore..I fear they will try to steal it...judges are one way....

Wish you could research Congressional Report put out in 1960's. I don't know how to google or lexus nexus. It was the CHURCH COMMISSION CONGRESSIONAL REPORT ON COMMUNIST INFILTRATION OF AMERICA. If someone could find this they would be amazed at how many of these points have taken fruition in the last 40 years. if any body finds this please send e-mail to centaur378@yahoo.com
